BALTIMORE, Md. (May 14, 2026) -- Morgan State men's basketball has added another major piece to its frontcourt for the 2026-27 season with the addition of Utah transfer Ibrahima Traore, who joins head coach Kevin Broadus' 2026 recruiting class.
A native of Bamako, Mali, the 6-foot-9, 222-pound forward arrives at Morgan State after spending time with the University of Utah Runnin' Utes program.
Traore, a former Oregon commit, spent the past two years with the Runnin' Utes but only appeared in nine games due to injury. He sat out the entire 2024-25 campaign after suffering a season-ending injury the week before opening day. As a redshirt freshman in 2025-26, Traore played a limited role, appearing in just 9 games in just one season in Salt Lake City.
Before beginning his collegiate career, Traore emerged as one of the top prep prospects in the country while attending West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Fla. He earned unanimous three-star status according to 247Sports composite rankings as the No. 37 center in the 2024 class and the No. 19 player from the state of Florida after he put up 18 points per game his senior season.
In addition to Oregon, Traore was also offered a scholarship by the College of Charleston and Texas State and garnered interest from Miami and Florida Atlantic, according to 247 Sports.
"We're excited to welcome Ibrahima to our basketball family," said head coach Kevin Broadus. "He's a talented and skilled forward with tremendous upside who brings size, versatility, and toughness to our frontcourt. We believe his experience at the high-major level and his determination to come back stronger from adversity will make an immediate impact on our program."
"Ibrahima plays with tremendous energy and passion. He is an excellent rebounder and rim protector, and has a relentlessness to his game that seems never to stop."
Known for his versatility, size, and athleticism, Traore adds another impactful presence in the paint for the Bears as Morgan State continues to strengthen its roster heading into the upcoming season.
Traore joins an impressive recruiting class assembled by Broadus and his staff as the Bears look to compete for a championship in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference during the 2026-27 campaign.
He joins a Morgan State team that concluded the 2025–26 season with a 14–16 overall record, including an impressive 10–4 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Bears finished among the league's top contenders before falling in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals.
With several key contributors moving on, Morgan State heads into the offseason focused on reshaping its roster and preparing the next generation of talent to step into larger roles. The addition of Traore is expected to be an important piece in that process.
