BROADUS

Kevin Broadus

Kevin Broadus enters his seventh season as head coach of the Morgan State University men’s basketball program, a role he has held since 2019.

Under his leadership, the Bears have steadily elevated their competitiveness, achieving significant victories over non-conference opponents and positioning the program to contend for championships within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Broadus has guided Morgan State through numerous challenges, including the complexities of rebuilding a program in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2024-25 season marked another milestone for Broadus and the Bears, as Morgan State finished with a 14-18 overall record and a 7-7 mark in MEAC play. The team was particularly dominant at home, posting an 11-4 record at Hill Field House, and earned its first MEAC tournament semifinal appearance since 2022. Along the way, the Bears notched several high-profile wins against top conference opponents and delivered strong performances in nationally recognized showcase events. Three Morgan State players received All-Conference honors for their exceptional contributions both on the court and academically, reflecting Broadus’s commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes.

Overall, Broadus has compiled an 82-93 record at Morgan State, including a 45-39 mark in conference play. The Bears have achieved double-digit wins in each of his seasons and garnered national attention by participating in premier events such as the Boost Mobile HBCU Challenge, NBA All-Star HBCU Classic presented by AT&T, and The Basketball Classic presented by Eracism.

Before joining Morgan State, Broadus served as the top assistant at the University of Maryland, College Park, under Mark Turgeon, where he played a key role in the Terrapins’ NCAA tournament successes. He also spent seven years at Georgetown University under John Thompson III, contributing to three Big East championships and multiple NCAA tournament appearances, including two Sweet Sixteen runs and a Final Four in 2007. Broadus was previously head coach at Binghamton University (2007-09), leading the Bearcats to their first-ever America East championship and NCAA tournament berth.

Broadus has coached and recruited five high school All-Americans and 12 future NBA players, including Jeff Green, Roy Hibbert, Otto Porter Jr., Patrick Ewing Jr., and DeJuan Summers. He has strong local ties, having coached at five universities in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

A native of the D.C. suburbs, Broadus played at Paul Laurence Dunbar and Montgomery Blair high schools. He began his college career at Grambling State University before transferring to Bowie State University, where he lettered three years and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990. He remained at Bowie State as an assistant coach until 1993, then served as an assistant at the University of the District of Columbia while earning a master’s degree in counseling in 1995.

Broadus and his wife, Belinda, are the proud parents of four children: Nicol, Milan, Paris, and Kevin Jr.
