Morgan State Legend Reggie Holmes To Be Inducted Into the MEAC 2027 Hall of Fame

BALTIMORE, Md. (August 20, 2026) – Morgan State University men's basketball legend Reggie Holmes is set to be inducted into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame as part of the conference's 2027 Hall of Fame Class, becoming the 17th Morgan State representative to earn the conference's highest honor.

Holmes will be enshrined alongside fellow 2027 inductees "Cy" Alexander of South Carolina State, Rod Broadway of North Carolina A&T, Christina Epps of Coppin State and William Judson of South Carolina State during the week of the 2027 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 10-13, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Holmes, who starred for the Bears from 2006-10 under legendary head coach Todd Bozeman, will join an elite group of Morgan State legends who have left an indelible mark on the MEAC. The induction will further cement Holmes' status as one of the most decorated players in Morgan State and MEAC men's basketball history.

Holmes joins a distinguished list of Morgan State MEAC Hall of Famers that includes volleyball's Ramona Riley-Bozier (2023), volleyball's Ja Nina Lee (2018), softball's Tanisha Kemp (2014), wrestling's James Phillips (2011), administrator Joseph McIver (2009), track & field's Neville Hodge (2007), track & field's Leonard Braxton (2007), track & field's Rochelle Stevens (2002), wrestling's William Smith (1999), football's James Williams (1995), track & field's Roberta Belle (1993), football's Joe Black (1986), men's basketball's Eric Evans (1986), men's basketball's Cal Irvin (1981), men's basketball's Talmadge Hill (1981) and men's basketball's Marvin Webster (1981).

A program-defining guard, Holmes helped usher Morgan State men's basketball into one of the most successful periods in school history. During his four-year career, he helped lead the Bears to three consecutive MEAC regular-season championships, two MEAC Tournament titles and two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances — the first two NCAA Tournament appearances in Morgan State men's basketball history.

rencaa1Holmes was named the 2010 MEAC Player of the Year and was a two-time First Team All-MEAC selection in 2009 and 2010. He was also recognized as an Associated Press All-American honorable mention selection following both his junior and senior seasons.

During his senior campaign, Holmes averaged 21.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, helping guide the Bears to a 27-10 overall record, a 15-1 mark in MEAC play, their third consecutive regular-season championship and second straight MEAC Tournament championship. Morgan then advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Holmes finished his Morgan State career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,051 points in 133 games played, a mark that ranks fifth in MEAC history. He also ranks second in conference history with 308 3-point field goals made and fourth with 514 free throws made.

His impact extended beyond the box score. Holmes was named to the MEAC 50th Anniversary Basketball Team, recognizing him among the conference's all-time basketball greats. He was also inducted into the Morgan State Varsity "M" Club Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, adding another prestigious honor to an already remarkable career.

Reflecting on the honor and the journey that led him to this moment, Holmes credited the people and program that helped shape his career and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at Morgan State and throughout the MEAC.

"Being inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame is an incredible honor and something I'm truly grateful for. When I look back on my time at Morgan State, I think about my teammates, coaches, family, and everyone who believed in me and helped make those moments possible. To have my name alongside so many of the great players, coaches, and contributors who have shaped the MEAC is humbling. Morgan State gave me the opportunity to compete, grow, and represent something bigger than myself, and I'll always be proud to be a Bear. This honor is a reflection of the people and the program that helped shape my journey, and I'm incredibly thankful to be part of the history of Morgan State and the MEAC."

Holmes' legacy was built during a transformational era for Morgan State men's basketball. His performances helped establish the Bears as a perennial contender in the MEAC and brought the program unprecedented success on the national stage.

Nearly two decades after his Morgan State career began, Holmes' accomplishments continue to stand among the greatest in program history. His induction into the MEAC Hall of Fame represents another milestone in the legacy of a player whose name remains synonymous with the rise of Morgan State basketball.

The inaugural Hall of Fame class was inducted on May 29, 1981, during a 10th anniversary banquet in Greensboro, N.C. Since its establishment, the MEAC Hall of Fame has enshrined 178 individuals.
