Davis and Peggs Jr. Set To Play At Historic Rucker Park In HBCU All-Star Dream Classic

BALTIMORE, Md. (June 23, 2026) -- Morgan State men's basketball guards Elijah Davis and Walter Peggs Jr. have been invited to play in the fourth annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) All-Star Dream Classic in Harlem, N.Y.

Davis and Peggs are among 40 student-athletes from Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationwide selected to compete in the prestigious showcase. The Dream Classic provides a national platform for HBCU student-athletes to display their talents while celebrating the rich traditions, academic excellence, and cultural impact of HBCUs. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at the world-renowned Rucker Park.

"It's truly a blessing and an honor to be selected to compete in the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic and represent Morgan State University on a historic stage like Rucker Park," said Davis. "This opportunity means a lot because it represents the hard work, dedication, and growth I've put in throughout my journey. I'm excited to compete alongside some of the best talent across the country and showcase the passion, pride, and excellence that HBCU basketball represents."

Davis added, "Morgan State gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader, develop my game, and leave my mark, so being able to put on the Bears uniform and represent this program one more time is something I'll always cherish."

"All glory to God for this opportunity and a big thanks to Morgan State for the continuous support athletically and academically," said Peggs. "It will be an honor to represent the school at such a great event like this. I also want to give a big thanks to the HBCU Classic for selecting me as a candidate."

The event will feature men's and women's all-star games showcasing recent HBCU players now eligible for opportunities in the NBA, WNBA, ABA, BIG3, European leagues, and other professional circuits. The women's game is scheduled to tip off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 6:30 p.m.

A BOXTOROW All-American, Davis proved to be the engine of the Bears' offense in his lone season at Morgan State, establishing himself as one of the premier playmakers in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Severn, Maryland native led the MEAC in assists and set the Morgan State single-season record with 153 assists, averaging 6.0 per game to break the previous mark of 5.5 set by Chico Langston in 1992-93.

Davis started all 26 games and averaged 13.8 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 45 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw line. He also totaled 29 steals and four blocked shots.

He scored in double figures 20 times, including three 20-point performances, and recorded four double-doubles in points and assists. One of his signature performances came in an 82-68 victory over Delaware State at Hill Field House, when Davis finished with 15 points, a game-high 15 assists, and seven rebounds in 39 minutes. His 15 assists tied the Morgan State single-game record previously set by Kameron Hobbs against Virginia-Lynchburg in 2023.

Peggs made an immediate impact in his lone season in Baltimore, providing instant offense and veteran leadership for the Bears. The graduate guard appeared in 28 games with six starts, averaging 8.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per contest.

Peggs shot 39 percent (79-of-202) from the field, 36.7 percent (47-of-128) from beyond the arc, and 81.6 percent (40-of-49) from the free throw line, while adding 20 assists and 11 steals. He scored in double figures nine times during the season.

Against Delaware State on Jan. 17, Peggs delivered his most explosive performance of the year, pouring in a season-high 29 points in an 80-79 road victory at Memorial Hall. He erupted for 23 of his 29 points in the first half, finishing 8-of-17 from the field and 7-of-12 from 3-point range. In an 89-80 win over crosstown rival Coppin State on Jan. 31, Peggs scored 18 points — 16 in the first half — while knocking down four 3-pointers in just 24 minutes off the bench. He later added 20 points in Morgan's 90-84 win over Norfolk State on March 2 at Hill Field House, including 18 first-half points and six made 3-pointers.

Now in its fourth year, the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic has evolved into much more than a basketball showcase. The event serves as a community engagement experience designed to connect student-athletes with fans, families, and future generations of leaders. Through the celebration of HBCU sports and academic achievement, the Dream Classic continues to inspire high school student-athletes to pursue higher education at HBCUs while striving for success in academics, athletics, and their future careers.

The event also provides an opportunity to highlight the impact of HBCUs nationwide and strengthen relationships within communities by promoting educational opportunities, alumni engagement, and institutional advancement.

Morgan State University encourages its faculty, staff, alumni, students, and supporters to join in celebrating Davis and Peggs as they represent the Bears and the MEAC on a national stage.

Admission is free with registration via Eventbrite. Fans can also watch the event online at hbcuallstardreamclassic.com.
