BALTIMORE, Md. (July 18, 2023) — Morgan State will be represented on a team looking to make a run in The Basketball Tournament this summer.
Former Bear standout Stanley Davis Jr. is set to play for HBCUnited.
HBCUnited, a team of players from historically black colleges and universities, had one of the most memorable runs in all of TBT last summer, when they made their way to the regional final. This year they are looking for more of the same.
TBT 2023 will be the tournament's 10th anniversary, with high-level play across eight different cities around the country.
"The opportunity to represent all HBCUs, including my alma mater Morgan State University, is an honor for me as a young black man from Chester (Pa.)," said Davis on Tuesday.
"We have a great opportunity to continue to change the narrative of HBCU's and we will come together to do just that."
Davis has experienced success as an overseas professional and most recently completed his first season with the Liders in the Lebanese Basketball League. Davis averaged a very impressive 20.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.9 apg and 1.8 spg in 19 games.
"Playing overseas has been very eye opening for me and a blessing to be able to continue and broaden my professional career," said Davis. "The points are great and all, but I want to reach my full potential on and off the court and at the highest level of European Basketball. That comes with consistent hard work and dedication."

The 24-year old played all four years for the Bears and finished his collegiate career ranked No. 24 on the school's all-time scoring leaderboard with 1,044 points and ranks 15th on the all-time rebounding list. He's just the 13th player in school history to have over 1,000 points and over 500 rebounds.
In his final season, he was a 2020 All-MEAC Third Team selection and ranked among the league leaders in a number of statistical categories: No. 8 in rebounding (6.0), No. 9 in scoring (13.7), No. 12 in assists (2.5), No. 6 in free throw percentage (.784) and No. 13 in field goal percentage (.465).
Davis has played professionally in the United Kingdom and Albania since completing his college career.
TBT is a 64-team, single-elimination tournament with a $1 million payout to the winning team. NBA players aren't eligible, but pros from other leagues across the world as well as former college greats are and battle it out annually.
Davis joins an HBCUnited roster that includes: Dana Tate (Norfolk State), Derrick Griffin (Texas Southern), Devante Carter (Norfolk State & Nicholls State), Joe Bryant (Norfolk State), Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk State), Malique Trent (TCU & Hampton), Roger Ray Jr. (Livingstone), Saiquan Jamison (Bowie State), Steven Whitley (Robert Morris & Norfolk State), Tahj Green (Benedict College), Thomas "Snacks" Lee (Jackson State), Walter Williams III (Virginia State) and will be coached by Norfolk State head coach Robert Jones.
HBCUnited will face In The Lab, a Kansas alumni team, in the opening round at 3 p.m. July 19 inside United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
