Former Morgan State Basketball standout Lawson Signs Pro Contract to Play in Slovakia

Rob Lawson joins Sentjur for his first year in pro basketball.

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 1, 2026) – Former Morgan State standout Rob Lawson has turned a lifelong dream into reality.

The Bears' veteran guard has signed his first professional contract with KK Tajfun Šentjur of Slovenia's Liga OTP banka (Slovenian League), beginning the next chapter of his basketball career.

"Signing my first professional contract is truly a blessing and a dream come true," Lawson said. "First and foremost, I thank God for guiding me through every challenge and opportunity along the way. I'm incredibly grateful to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone at Morgan State who believed in me and helped shape me into the player and man I am today."

"This journey wasn't built overnight, and I don't take any part of it for granted. Every sacrifice, setback, and lesson has prepared me for this moment. I'm excited for this next chapter and thankful for the opportunity to take my game overseas while proudly representing Morgan State, myself, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey."

"Slovenia... let's get to work."

"It's an exciting moment anytime one of our student-athletes earns the opportunity to continue playing professionally," Morgan State head coach Kevin Broadus said. "Rob has put in countless hours developing his game and representing Morgan State the right way."

Lawson concluded an outstanding four-year career at Morgan State, helping lead the Bears to a second-place finish in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) during the 2025-26 season. One of the conference's top guards, he averaged 12.8 points per game to rank sixth in the MEAC, while adding 4.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest. He logged 32.8 minutes per game and shot 81 percent from the free-throw line, serving as a steady scorer, playmaker and leader throughout his senior season.

A consistent offensive presence throughout the season, Lawson scored in double figures in 20 games and reached the 20-point mark four times. He delivered one of his finest performances on Jan. 24, scoring a season-high 24 points to lead the Bears to a road victory over Howard. His stellar senior campaign culminated with a selection to the 2026 HBCU All-Star Game, where he represented Morgan State among the nation's top HBCU players.

Before arriving at Morgan State, Lawson starred at National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland.

Now a Morgan State graduate, Lawson embarks on his first professional season overseas, becoming the latest Bear to continue his basketball career at the international level.
