Ware Named MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 18, 2022) -- Morgan State junior guard De'Torrion Ware has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Ware collected his fifth career double-double during a heartbreaking 79-76 loss at the buzzer to Coppin State on Saturday (Jan. 15). The 6-foot-4 guard finished with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds (all on the defensive end). He also added four steals and two assists in 33 minutes of play. 

It is the first weekly honor this season for Ware and marks his second consecutive game with a double-double. He recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-81 overtime victory at South Carolina State on Jan. 10. 

The Hopkinsville, Kentucky product currently leads the Bears averaging 10.9 points with 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals. 

Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant was named Player of the Week, while Coppin State redshirt freshman Nendah Tarke.was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Ware. Howard freshman guard Elijah Hawkins was honored Rookie Player of the Week. 

Morgan State (6-8,1-1) will look to break back in the win column when they host the Howard (6-8, 0-1) on Saturday at Hill Field House. The Bison will enter Saturday's contest attempting to snap a 3-game losing streak. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
