Morgan State Adds South Carolina transfer Seventh Woods

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 9, 2021) – University of South Carolina transfer Seventh Woods has signed to play basketball for Morgan State University, head coach Kevin Broadus has announced. He is currently enrolled in summer courses and is participating in summer activities.

"We are pleased to welcome Seventh to the Morgan State men's basketball family," said Broadus. "He can score the ball multiple ways and can really defend. He's got a great basketball IQ and gives us maturity and depth in our backcourt."

Broadus added, "It's an honor to coach a kid who has won a National Championship. He has Championship pedigree."

"I've known Seventh and his family from recruiting him at Georgetown! They are really good people."

Woods, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard from Columbia, S.C., will be an academic redshirt senior when he dons a Blue and Orange jersey.

Woods transferred to South Carolina prior to the 2019-20 season after playing three seasons and winning a national championship with Roy Williams' North Carolina team. He sat out for a season in Columbia due to NCAA transfer rules.

A bench player at UNC, Woods emerged as Frank Martin's starting point guard early in the 2020-21 season, averaging 5.4 points in 18 games. He tore his groin in the final game of the regular season at Kentucky, and Martin said shortly after the season that he wasn't sure if Woods would continue to play after graduating from USC.

Woods had a standout prep career at the Hammond School in Columbia, averaging 18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and five assists per game as a senior. He helped his squad capture the 2015 state championship and was twice named Mr. Basketball in the state of South Carolina, while collecting other accolades such as all-region and all-state honors. He was also named the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Player of the Year four times.

Woods joins an MSU team that returns All-MEAC guards De'Torrion Ware and Malik Miller. The Bears lost three seniors in All-MEAC forward Troy Baxter Jr. (13.7 ppg), and forwards Victor Okafor and Jamar Brown (7.5 ppg).

In his second season at MSU, Broadus led the Bears to a MEAC best 14-8 record, including a 3-1 record against Division I non-conference opponents. The Bears advanced to the MEAC Tournament title game where they fell to Norfolk State. It marked the Bears first appearance in the conference finals since 2014.
