BALTIMORE, Md. (May 20, 2026) -- Morgan State men's basketball has strengthened its backcourt for the 2026-27 season with the addition of transfer guard Keith Richard, head coach Kevin Broadus announced as part of the Bears' 2026 recruiting class.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Richard arrives at Morgan State after spending the 2025-26 season at South Plains College in Texas. The 6-foot guard started 19 of 27 games and averaged 10.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while playing 25.5 minutes per contest. He shot 41 percent from the field and connected on 39 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Richard reached double figures in scoring 15 times during the season and delivered one of his top performances on Feb. 26 against Western Texas College, erupting for a career-high 32 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor.
"We're excited to welcome Keith to our program," said Broadus. "He's a tough, experienced guard who can really stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Keith has played at a high level and brings maturity, confidence, and competitiveness to our backcourt. We believe he'll fit well into our system and make an immediate impact."
Prior to South Plains, Richard began his collegiate career at Cal State Fullerton, where he spent two seasons. During his time with the Titans, he averaged 6.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while gaining valuable Division I experience.
Richard prepped at South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, where he earned first-team all-district and all-region honors. He also served as team captain and was named team MVP during his prep career. Coming out of high school, Richard chose Cal State Fullerton over offers from SMU, Grand Canyon University, New Mexico State University, and several other programs.
Richard's addition gives the Bears another experienced perimeter option as Morgan State continues to build its roster for the upcoming season.
