Morgan State Men’s Basketball Lands a Scorer, Adds JCSU Transfer Trey Pettigrew

BALTIMORE, Md. (May 28, 2026) — Morgan State men's basketball has added veteran guard Trey Pettigrew to its backcourt for the 2026-27 season, head coach Kevin Broadus announced as part of the Bears' 2026 recruiting class.

"Trey is a proven scorer who brings experience, toughness, and versatility to our backcourt," said head coach Kevin Broadus. "He's competed at multiple levels of Division I basketball and understands what it takes to impact winning. We're excited about his ability to create offense, stretch the floor, and bring leadership to our program as we continue building toward our goals."

A product of Chicago, Illinois, Pettigrew joins Morgan State after spending the 2025-26 season at Division II Johnson C. Smith University. He started every game for the Golden Bulls and averaged 17.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per contest while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from three-point range. Pettigrew scored in double figures 21 times, including seven 20-point performances.

Before JCSU, Pettigrew competed at Eastern Michigan, where he appeared in 22 games with six starts. He recorded a season-high eight points and five rebounds while shooting 2-for-2 from beyond the arc against Ohio on Jan. 21.

Prior to Eastern Michigan, Pettigrew spent one season at Nevada as a former top-150 national recruit. He appeared in 27 of the Wolf Pack's 33 games during his freshman campaign, averaging 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per game while shooting 36.5 percent from the field.

Pettigrew was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals and was considered one of the top five prospects in Illinois in his class, according to The Hoops Report. He began his prep career at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, before transferring to Eduprize High School in Gilbert, Arizona, for his junior season. Pettigrew returned to Illinois for his senior year at Kenwood Academy.

As a junior at Eduprize, he averaged 14 points, four assists, and two rebounds per game. During his time at Fenwick, he earned All-Chicago Catholic League Second Team honors in 2019-20, becoming the only sophomore named to any of the league's three all-conference teams.
