BALITIMORE, Md. (Feb. 5, 2019) -- Morgan State men's basketball freshman Sherwyn Devonish-Prince was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The Bladensburg, Md. standout scored a game-high 19 points while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out two assists and making one steal in a narrow 73-71 loss to Coppin State (Feb. 2). Against Florida A&M (Jan. 28), he also chipped in 12 points with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
For the week, he averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Tuesday's announcement marks the second straight week that Devonish-Prince has been named as the league's top newcomer. Over the last four games he has scored 59 points and shot .431 (22-of-51) from the field and .778 (14-of-18) from the free throw line.
This is the fourth MEAC Rookie of the Week honor this season for Devonish-Prince, who also earned the honor for the week of Dec. 11, the week of Jan. 2 and the week of Jan. 29.
He currently leads the league in free throw shooting percentage (.893; ranks No. 15 in the nation) and is shooting 36.3 percent from the field. He is second on the team in scoring (11.5 points per game) and minutes per game (29.5 mpg).
Devonish-Prince was an All-State recruit out of Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High where he led the Pumas to the Prince George's County Championship in 2018.
Morgan State returns to action when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs on Saturday (Feb. 9). Tip-off at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
