BEARS PREPARE FOR LOCAL SHOWDOWN AT TOWSON
The Morgan State Bears continue non-conference action at Towson (0-1) on Monday, Nov. 16th. Tip-off at SECU Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast online by HSRN and SiriusXM Channel 134. Live statistics will be located on TowsonSports.com.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Towson welcomed back eight letterwinners and five starters, from a squad that posted a 12-20 overall record, and went 5-13 mark in the CAA.
• Pat Skerry (Tufts '92) enters his 5th season as the Tigers head men's basketball coach. He currently holds a 56-76 record at Towson, and is 80-101 in his seventh year career as a head coach.• Towson was picked seventh in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll.
• Juniors John Davis and Arnauld William Adala Moto to earned preseason recognition from the CAA. Davis was named preseason second team all-CAA selection, while Adala Moto was named honorable mention. William Adala Moto, a Wake Forest transfer, scored 28 points with 9 boards for the Tigers, but it was a game-winner by Johnnie Schuler that lifted LaSalle to a 78-76 victory. Sophomore Mike Morsell added 13 points with five assists for the Tigers.
THE SERIES
• Monday marks the 27th meeting in the series. The series is tied at 13 apiece since the 1967-68 season. The Tigers have won the last two meetings vs. MSU.
• MSU head coach Todd Bozeman has led the Bears to a 2-2 record against Towson.
• In their last meeting, the Bears were held to three field goals in the final 11 minutes in a 51-46 home loss to Towson. Donte Pretlow scored a team-high 13 points and Cedric Blossom added 11. Four McGlynn paced the Tigers with 13.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS:
Nov. 13, 2015 -Center Mike Tobey had 15 points and eight rebounds and the No. 6 Cavaliers shook off early shooting problems to beat Morgan State 86-48 on Friday night. The 7-foot Tobey took full advantage of the 5 inches he had on Morgan State big men Kyle Thomas and Phillip Carr. He converted a pair of second-half putbacks during a 17-0 run coming out of the halftime break that put the injury-ravaged, outmanned Bears away. Thomas led Morgan State with 14 points. The Bears trailed just 16-14 before Tobey kicked off the Cavaliers' decisive run with a layup and a dunk. Phillip Carr added eight points for the Bears and Martez Cameron chipped in six points and seven assists.
NEXT UP
The Bears will travel to face Old Dominion in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
HOME GROWN
Morgan State has five (5) players from the DMV (D.C., Maryland & Metropolitan-D.C.) area, including two from Baltimore. Senior Senior Donte Pretlow (Dunbar High) and redshirt junior Cliff Cornish (North County) are both from Baltimore. Senior Cedric Blossom (Montrose Christian) is from Columbia and senior Andrew Hampton is from Germantown (Seneca Valley), while freshman Anthony Tate (Takoma Academy) is from Fort Washington.
THOMAS HAS SOLID DEBUT
Junior forward Kyle Thomas had a solid debut for the Bears as he poured in 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field against #6 Virginia. He also knocked in 3-of-8 from beyond the arc.
DISHING IT OUT
Freshman Martez Cameron came off the bench for his first bit of NCAA Division I action when the Bears took on #6 Virginia last Friday in Charlottesville. The 5-foot-11 guard recorded a game-high seven assists to go along with six points and three rebounds in 33 minutes of play.
CARR JOINS BEARS
The Bears frontcourt got an infusion of talent in the frontcourt with the addition of Phillip Carr. The 6-foot-8 forward transferred to the Bears from Williston State where he averaged 8 ppg and 8 rpg in the MVCC. Carr started in the season opener at #6 Virginia and scored 8 points with two steals and a pair of rebounds in 29 minutes.
