Morgan State Announces 2026 Coaching Staff Changes Under Damon Wilson

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 30, 2026) – Morgan State head football coach Damon Wilson has announced the program's 2026 coaching staff, featuring several returning members, along with key new additions to round out the Bears' staff.

"I'm excited about the additions that we have made to the staff, as they bring a great deal of energy and passion for teaching," said Wilson. "Both of the new coaches have made an immediate impact with our student-athletes in their position rooms and within the staff. I look forward to continuing to build on the foundation that has been laid."

On the defensive side, the Bears return assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Antone' Sewell, defensive line coach Ramal Faunteroy, linebackers coach Brawley Evans, defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach Omarr Smith, and nickelbacks coach Melvin Coleman.

Offensively, Apollo Wright returns as offensive coordinator and running backs coach, alongside quarterbacks coach Tyrae Reid, offensive line coach/chief of staff Richard Reddix, and tight ends/special teams coach Benton "Sport" Harold.

Tate Leavitt joins the staff as offensive line coach following a season as offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at West Virginia Wesleyan. His coaching résumé includes stops at Georgetown College (2017), Indiana State (2019), and Hocking College (2023–25). As a player, Leavitt spent two seasons at the University of Kentucky before finishing his collegiate career as a graduate transfer at Indiana State.

Douglas McNeil III has been hired as wide receivers coach after serving in the same role at Bowie State from 2021–25. A Baltimore native, McNeil is a former NFL, CFL, and Arena Bowl champion wide receiver. He also previously coached wide receivers and kickoff returners at Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, Md., and was an All-CIAA selection during his playing career at Bowie State.

The 2026 coaching staff reflects Morgan State's continued commitment to excellence, player development, and building a championship culture both on and off the field.

The Bears' highly anticipated season opener is set for Saturday, Aug. 29, at North Carolina A&T. Morgan State will host five of its 12 contests in 2026 at Hughes Stadium. Fans looking to be part of the excitement can secure their seats now by visiting Ticketmaster.
