Brawley Evans enters his third season as the linebackers coach for the Morgan State Bears. A Baltimore native with extensive collegiate and high school coaching experience, Evans has played an important role in the development of Morgan State’s linebackers and defensive unit.
In 2025, Evans continued to lead the Bears’ linebackers, helping develop a talented group that included several key contributors on Morgan State’s defense. The Bears’ linebacking corps was led by standout performers who played significant roles throughout the season, with the unit contributing to Morgan State’s defensive efforts in both conference and non-conference play.
Evans previously spent eight seasons with the Maryland Terrapins over two separate stints, transitioning to coaching inside linebackers in 2021 after leading the outside linebacker unit in 2020.
Maryland’s pass rush improved substantially during Evans’ first year on the defensive coaching staff in 2020. The Terrapins recorded 14 sacks in only five games, the second-best per-game mark in the Big Ten. Durell Nchami earned PFF National Defensive Player of the Week honors following his performance against Rutgers, when he recorded two strip sacks.
Evans served as a graduate assistant coach at Maryland from 2012-13 and later worked as an analyst for four seasons from 2016-19. Between his two stints in College Park, Evans spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Morgan State University.
During his first stint as a graduate assistant at Maryland, Evans assisted the Terrapins’ defensive coaches, working primarily with the linebackers while also assisting with recruiting and opponent scouting.
Prior to his first stint at Maryland, Evans was the defensive backs coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. During his four-year tenure, the Falcons won three consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships and earned national rankings in USA Today in 2009, 2010, and 2011. His first coaching position came in 2008 as the head junior varsity coach and offensive coordinator at Baltimore Lutheran School.
Before pursuing a career in coaching, Evans was a standout running back. The Baltimore native spent two seasons as an all-conference running back at West Liberty State in West Virginia and also earned all-conference honors at Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista, California.
Evans attended Dundalk High School, where he was an all-state running back for the Owls. He earned his degree in criminal justice from West Virginia State.
A Baltimore native, Evans brings a strong understanding of defensive football, player development and recruiting to the Morgan State program as he continues his work with the Bears’ linebackers.
