BALTIMORE, Md. (March 11, 2025) — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its all-conference selections on Tuesday evening, delivering a surge of pride to Morgan State University's men's basketball program. The Bears' strong season has been validated with the recognition of three exceptional players.
Leading the charge, Kameron Hobbs has earned a coveted spot on the First Team, a testament to his consistently stellar play. Joining the ranks of the conference's elite, Will Thomas was honored with a selection to the Second Team. Rounding out the accolades, Daniel Akitoby's tenacious defense hasn't gone unnoticed, as he was deservedly named to the All-Defensive Team, solidifying Morgan's presence on both ends of the court.
Hobbs, the redshirt-senior hailing from Stockbridge, Georgia, has been a true engine for the Bears this season. Leading the team with an impressive 16.1 points per game, a mark that places him seventh in the MEAC, Hobbs has proven to be a consistent offensive threat that opposing defenses must game plan for. His efficiency is just as notable, boasting an 84% free throw percentage – second best in the conference – and a solid 46% field goal percentage, showcasing his ability to score from multiple areas of the court.
Beyond just scoring, Hobbs contributes from beyond the arc as well, averaging 1.7 three-pointers per game, ranking him seventh in the MEAC. His consistent performance is evident in his impressive scoring record, having reached double-figures in 24 games, including a remarkable streak of 19 consecutive games. Furthermore, Hobbs has exploded for 20 or more points in 14 contests, highlighted by an earlier streak of eight straight 20+ point performances. His crowning achievement came on January 7th, when he erupted for a league-high 40 points in a thrilling double-overtime victory against North Carolina Central on their home court, Hill Field House. This combination of high volume scoring and impressive efficiency makes Hobbs a crucial component of the Bears' offensive strategy and a key player in their quest for conference success.

Thomas, the Baltimore native and seasoned redshirt-senior, has solidified his role as a reliable offensive threat. His consistency is evident in reaching double-digit scoring in an impressive 20 out of 30 games this season. Beyond mere consistency, however, lies a knack for explosive performances. Thomas has demonstrated the ability to take over games, highlighted by eight contests where he eclipsed the 20-point mark, showcasing a high scoring ceiling that makes him a pivotal player for the team.
Thomas' ability to knock down mid-range shots has also been on full display, as he currently boasts an impressive shooting percentage of 46 percent, ranking him fifth in the league. This efficiency has translated into an average of 14.3 points per game (No. 10 in MEAC). With his deadly mid-range shot and consistent scoring, Thomas has continued to be a key contributor to the team's success this season.

Despite being surprisingly overlooked for the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year award, Akitoby's three Defensive Player of the Week honors solidify his standing as a defensive juggarnaut. While contributing a solid 9.3 points per game, he truly shines in the rebounding arena. Leading the league with an impressive 7.5 rebounds per game, Akitoby is the engine driving Morgan's exceptional team rebounding performance. The Bears finished the regular season ranked second in overall rebounds and reign supreme in defensive boards, a direct result of Akitoby's relentless pursuit of the ball. Beyond his rebounding prowess, opponents must also contend with his formidable rim protection, as his 33 blocked shots, earning him the moniker 'Blockitoby,' firmly place him among the league's elite shot blockers.
The All-MEAC teams are selected by the conference's head basketball coaches and sports information directors.
The Bears' 13-17 regular season was anything but smooth sailing. Plagued by inconsistencies and struggling to find a rhythm early on, it seemed like a long shot they would even contend in conference play. However, a mid-season shift in strategy, coupled with improved team chemistry, sparked a remarkable turnaround. The Bears found their footing and began stringing together wins, ultimately finishing with a commendable 7-7 conference record. This resurgence not only salvaged their season but also positioned them as a team to watch heading into their MEAC Quarterfinals matchup versus #4 seed Howard on Thursday night.
Tournament play begins Wednesday, March 12, and runs through Saturday, March 15, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
