STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2024)--The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team returned to New York for the second straight week, this time competing in the NYC Gotham Cup held on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility.

Morgan State would finish with seven top-five marks, including three individual winners in the field events.

Senior
Ishana Asinor led the way, capturing gold in the pole vault for the second consecutive week. Asinor, who last week during the HBCU Showcase, matched both her personal-best and school record mark of 10-11.75 (3.35m), which she set last season, finished this weekend with a mark of 10-10 (3.30m), after winning the jump off. Asinor finished the pole vault event in a tie for first with Fiona Carroll of Wesleyan with a height of 10-4 (3.15), which led to the jump off.

Laniyah Henderson claimed first in the triple jump, following her leap of 39-1.00 (11.91m), while teammate Hemeti Apet placed third with a jump of 38-10.75 (10.94m). Henderson would also place second in the long jump with a mark of 17-9.75 (5.43m).

Terine Lambert would capture the third gold of the day for the Lady Bears, as she won the shot put with a toss of 45-7.25 (13.90m). Lambert also finished fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 50-0.00 (15.25m).

On the track, Morgan State's 4X400 meter relay team of
Victoria Francis,
Zion Pittman,
Jessica Lamborn and Hemetil Apet ran a time of 4:04.99 to place fifth.

Denisha McLaurin ran a time of 9.46 seconds to place sixth in the 60 meter hurdles and
Gabrielle Jeffries also had a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 25.42 seconds.

Morgan State will return to action next weekend when it travels to State College, Pa. to compete in the Penn State National (Jan. 25-27).
