Morgan State Women’s Track & Field Powers Through the Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. (April 11, 2026) -- The Morgan State women's track & field team continued its outdoor campaign this weekend at the Duke Invitational, competing over two days at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Hosted by Duke University, the invitational featured a competitive field that included Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents Coppin State University, North Carolina Central University, and Norfolk State University.

Morgan State turned in several encouraging performances across the weekend, highlighted by top-eight finishes from sophomore Jatavia Robinson in the 200 meters and the 4x100-meter relay team, as well as a personal-best leap from Keira Stewart in the long jump. The strong showing signals what should be an exciting time for Morgan State as it hosts the Legacy Track Meet (April 17-18) next week at Hughes Stadium.


FRIDAY, APRIL 10
Morgan State's women opened Day 1 on Friday with several strong performances, led by impressive efforts on the track and in the throwing events. Sophomore Jatavia Robinson paced the Bears in the 100-meter preliminaries, clocking an outstanding 11.70 to finish ninth overall, narrowly missing a spot in the finals. The Bears also saw solid sprint performances from sophomore Keira Stewart, who posted a season-best 12.37, and senior Aleshia Robinson, who turned in a personal-best 12.40. In the field events, senior Bryan Carter delivered a strong showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.53 meters to finish 21st, while sophomore Cailyn Johnson recorded a toss of 44.00 meters in the discus to place 14th, helping Morgan close out the opening day with momentum heading into Saturday's competition.

Prelims
Sophomore Jatavia Robinson recorded a time of 11.70 to place 9th, just missing out on advancing to the finals. Freshman Anyra Knight ran a personal-best time of 12.04 (32nd); sophomore Keira Stewart ran a season-best 12.37 (69th), senior Aleshia Robinson ran a personal-best 12.40 (73rd), and freshman Kayla Gordon ran a 12.78 (88th).

Field Events:
Hammer Throw
Senior Brylan Carter posted a toss of 47.53m to finish in 21st place.

Discus
Sophomore Cailyn Johnson recorded a toss of 44.00m to finish 14th.

DAY 2 | SATURDAY, MARCH 28
The Lady Bears closed out Day 2 with several standout performances, highlighted by top-eight finishes on the track and in the field. Sophomore Jatavia Robinson delivered one of the Bears' best efforts of the day in the 200 meters, placing sixth overall with a season-best time of 24.01. The Lady Bears also shined in the 4x100-meter relay, as the 'A' team of Jatavia Robinson, Anyra Knight, Aleshia Robinson, and Keira Stewart raced to a third-place finish in Heat 3 and an eighth-place overall showing with a time of 46.45. Senior Aleisha Robinson also contributed a season-best time of 56.88 in the 400 meters. In the field events, sophomore Keira Stewart turned in an impressive performance in the long jump, recording a personal-best leap of 6.07 meters to place eighth overall. Senior Brylan Carter added another strong mark for Morgan in the javelin, posting a season-best throw of 38.01 meters to finish 14th, as the Bears wrapped up the second day of the competition.
 
Track Events:
4x100m Relay
The Morgan State 'A' team (J. Robinson, A. Knight, A. Robinson, K. Stewart) crossed the finish line with a 3rd place finish in Heat 3 with a time of 46.45, and placed 8th overall.

400m
Senior Aleisha Robinson ran a season-best  56.88 (36th). Freshman Kayla Gordon posted a time of 59.01 (62nd).

800m
Freshman Natalia Eastman ran a time of 2:16.63 (69th).

200m
Sophomore Jatavia Robinson placed 6th overall with a season-best time of 24.01, a mark that currently ranks No. 6 in the MEAC.
 
Field Events:
Long Jump
Sophomore Keira Stewart posted a personal-best leap of 6.07 meters to place eighth overall, a mark that currently ranks No. 2 in the MEAC.

Javelin
Senior Brylan Carter placed 14th with a season-best toss of 38.01m, a mark that currently ranks No. 1 in the MEAC.
