Morgan State Women’s Track & Field Shine at the Legacy Track Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 18, 2026) -- The Morgan State women's track & field team continued its outdoor campaign this weekend by hosting the annual Legacy Track Meet.

Morgan State turned in several encouraging performances across the weekend, finishing as the meet runner-up with 87.5 points. Towson led the field with 151 points, while Delaware State placed third (87 pts), Johns Hopkins finished fourth (48.25 pts), and Coppin State rounded out the standings in fifth (42 pts). The strong showing signals what should be an exciting stretch for Morgan State as it prepares to compete in the Penn Relays next week.

Morgan State was fueled by a series of standout individual performances in both track and field events. Several athletes posted personal-best marks, while others delivered strong finishes in key scoring events to help the Bears remain competitive throughout the meet.

On the track, Morgan State saw strong efforts in the sprints and middle-distance events, with multiple athletes advancing and scoring valuable points. In the field events, the Bears continued to show depth, highlighted by solid performances in the throws and jumps.

With momentum building, Morgan State will look to build on this weekend's success as the team continues its outdoor schedule.
 

FRIDAY, APRIL 17
Morgan State's women delivered a strong showing in the field events on Day 1 of the Legacy Track Meet, highlighted by a dominant performance from senior Brylan Carter. Carter, the reigning MEAC Field Athlete of the Week, opened the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 50.00 meters to place second overall, a mark that ranks seventh among HBCU competitors this season, before returning to capture first place in the javelin with a throw of 36.61 meters. The Bears also saw depth in the hammer, as freshman Terry-Ann Thompson recorded a personal-best to finish fifth, while sophomore Cailyn Johnson added a seventh-place mark. Jayla-Shae Wright contributed an eighth-place finish in the javelin, rounding out a strong opening day for Morgan State in the field events.

 



Field Events:
Hammer Throw
Senior Bryan Carter posted a personal best toss of 50.00m on her first throw on the meet, to finish in 2nd place—her mark is the 7th best among HBCUs. Freshman Terry-Ann Thompson and sophomore Cailyn Johnson earned top-10 finishes, as Thompson placed 5th with a personal best toss of 47.49m (No. 11 in HBCU), and Johnson finished 7th with a mark of 43.95m.

Javelin
Senior Brylan Carter recorded a mark of 36.61m on her first toss to capture 1st place. Jayla-Shae Wright placed 8th with a toss of 25.97.

DAY 2 | SATURDAY, APRIL 18
Morgan State's women closed out Day 2 with several standout performances, highlighted by nine top-five finishes across track and field events. Sophomore Jatavia Robinson, the reigning MEAC Track Athlete of the Week, led the way on the track, delivering one of the Bears' top performances of the day with a second-place finish in the 100 meters. She followed that effort with another strong showing in the 200 meters, also placing second. The Lady Bears continued to impress in the 4x100-meter relay, as the 'A' team of Jatavia RobinsonAnyra Knight, Aleshia Robinson, and Keira Stewart secured a third-place finish with a season-best time of 46.19. In the field events, sophomore Keira Stewart turned in a standout performance, recording a personal-best mark of 6.08 meters to claim first place. Sophomore Cailyn Johnson added to the team's success with a second-place finish in the discus. Freshman Raven Johnson contributed with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, while fellow freshman Terry-Ann Thompson placed fifth in the shot put, rounding out a strong final day for the Bears at the Legacy Track Meet.

400mH
Freshman Elena Juarez ran a 1:09.06 to take 12th place.

4x100m Relay
The Morgan State 'A' team (J. Robinson, A. Knight, A. Robinson, K. Stewart) crossed the finish line with a 3rd place finish with a season best time of 46.19 – currently ranks No. 13 in HBCUs.

1500m
Junior Crystal Coke turned in a personal best time of 4:58.80 and placed 8th, followed closely behind by Aaliyah Headley with a season best time of 5:00.40 (9th).

100m 
Sophomore Jatavia Robinson qualified for the finals with a time of 11.77 and placed 2nd in the finals with a time of 11.62. Freshman Anyra Knight ran a time of 12.08 (10th), sophomore Keira Stewart ran a 12.25 (15th), junior Laniyah Henderson ran a 12.69 (34th), and freshman Elena Juarez ran a 13.36 (50th).

100mH 
Freshman Anyra Knight also turned in a solid preliminary performance, qualifying for the finals with a time of 14.36, though she did not compete in the final.

400m
Senior Aleisha Robinson ran a time of 58.03 to finish in 12th place. Freshman Kayla Gordon ran a time of 59.14 (21st) and sophomore Kayla More ran a 1:01.78 (35th).

800m
Freshman Natalia Eastman recorded a personal best time of 2:15.43 to place 5th.

200m
Sophomore Jatavia Robinson placed 2nd overall with a time of 23.88.

5000m
Junior Crystal Coke crossed the finish line with a time of 19:57.21 to place 6th.
 
Field Events:
Shot Put
Freshman Terry-Ann Thompson recorded a 5th place finish with a mark of 11.46m.

Pole Vault
Freshman Raven Johnson posted a 5th place finish with a mark of 3.01m.

Long Jump
Sophomore Keira Stewart recorded a personal best 6.08m to capture 1st place, followed by junior Laniyah Henderson, who posted a 5.70m to place 4th. Junior Hemetii Apet cleared 5.19m (17th), and junior Azariah Jones cleared 5.00m (23rd).

High Jump
Sophomores Aleah Alexander and TyTiana Grandy finished tied for 8th place as they cleared 1.50m (17th), junior Azariah Jones cleared 5.00m (23rd), and senior Denisha McLaurin cleared 4.54m (31st).

Discus
Sophomore Cailyn Johnson placed 2nd with a toss of 42.37m. Sophomore Addriana Cordner and senior Brylan Carter placed 11th (34.80m) and 12th (34.66m), respectively. Freshman Terry-Ann Thompson had a toss of 28.26m (20th).

Triple Jump
Freshman Raven Johnson had a mark of 10.62m to finish in 12th place.
