BALTIMORE, Md. (May 24, 2023) – The Morgan State men's basketball program have added New Mexico State transfer Kiran Oliver who will suit up for the Bears for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
The 6-foot-4 guard redshirted the 2021-22 season at New Mexico State and is preparing for his college debut this season.
"Kiran is a great athlete," said Morgan head coach Kevin Broadus. "He's a two-way player who can play multiple positions and has the potential to be an impactful player for our program."
Oliver, a Chicago (Ill.) product, began his prep career at Shadow Ridge High School before matriculating to another Arizona institution. For the 2018-19 season, Oliver suited up for Shadow Ridge HS in Surprise, Ariz., where he helped the Stallions post a 21-8 record which included an 9-2 showing in region action. He reigned as the Stallions' leading scorer in his lone season at the institution before moving on to PHH Prep for the final two seasons of his pre-collegiate career.
As a junior in 2019-20, turned into a go-to player on the squad and helped the team accumulate 34 victories and was named The Grind Session's Under the Radar Player of the Year at the end of the season. He completed his tenure with PHH Prep in 2020-21 where he averaged 19.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 10 games on the team's high school circuit. He rated as a three-star recruit and the 13th-best recruit in the state of Arizona.
Oliver will join a Morgan State squad coming off of a 15-16 campaign in which they went 7-7 in MEAC play to reach the conference tournament. The Bears were tough at home in Baltimore, going 10-2 at Hill Field House.
Oliver joins 6-foot-11 forward Christian Oliver, 6-foot-9 forward Allen Udemadu, 6-foot-7 forward Myles Thompson and 6-2 guard Wynston Tabbs as part of the Bears' 2023-24 recruiting class.
Oliver joins an MSU team that returns veteran guards Kamron Hobbs (8.4 ppg) and Will Thomas (8.9 ppg). The Bears lost five seniors Isaiah Burke (18.7 ppg), Malik Miller (17.5 ppg), Lewis Djonkam (7.9 ppg), Ty Horner (2.6) and Collin Nnamene (2.2 ppg).
