COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 25 2023) — The Morgan State men's track and field team competed at the 2023 Weems Baskin Relays this weekend at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track hosted by the University of South Carolina. The meet began Friday and concluded Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
● Antonio Sims had a busy day and recorded personal bests in all three of the sprint events he competed in for the Bears. The freshman ran a time of 11.24 to place 20th in the 100m dash, finished 22nd in the 200m (21.85) and raced to a 7th place finish in the 400m (48.95).
● Freshman Jadon Ra-Akbar placed 22nd in the 100m Invite with a personal best time of 11.11.
● Tarique Gooden clocked in a time of 56.81 to place to 14th place in the 400m hurdles. He also added a 24th finish in the 400m (50.59).
● John Purvis placed 7th in the shot put with a toss of 15.61m (51-02.75) — it currently ranks No. 2 in the conference, behind South Carolina State's Dexter Ratliff (47.33). The junior also placed 9th in the discus with a personal best toss of 46.49m, and placed 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.41.
