Morgan State Men’s Track & Field Team Wrap Day 1 at MEAC Outdoor Championships

NORFOLK, Va. (May 14, 2026) -- The Morgan State University men's track & field team completed Day 1 competition Thursday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at William "Dick" Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.
 
Morgan State opened the championship meet with strong performances on both the track and in the field, highlighted by silver and bronze-medal finishes and a personal-best qualifying performance.
 
Sophomore Doyin Smith advanced to the finals of the men's 200-meter dash after posting a personal-best time of 21.31 in the preliminaries, earning the eighth-fastest qualifying mark.

In the field events, sophomore Demond Smith earned a podium finish in the discus with a bronze-medal throw of 46.12 meters. Junior Isaac Rankin also secured a silver-medal finish in the high jump after clearing 2.03 meters. The event featured a tightly contested race for second place, as Rankin finished in a three-way tie with Kristopher Stephens of Norfolk State and Sean Williams of Coppin State, with all three athletes clearing the same height.

Friday's competition will feature a full schedule of preliminary races and field event finals, including the long jump, shot put, hammer throw, and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
Championship Saturday will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. The broadcast opens with the 4x100-meter relay finals and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay final at 4:15 p.m. Team trophies and Outstanding Performer honors will be presented following the final events.

Doyin Smith qualified for the finals with a personal-best time of 21.31, finishing eighth overall. Maxim Copeland placed 16th in 21.78, Ronald Gilmore recorded a season-best 21.88 to finish 20th, and Myles Dorsey placed 23rd in 22.37.

Field Events:

Demond Smith earned bronze with a throw of 46.12 meters.
 
High Jump
Isaac Rankin secured a silver-medal finish after clearing 2.03 meters. Jeryco Sheppard placed eighth with a mark of 1.95 meters, while KeSean-Jordan Rhooms finished ninth after clearing 1.90 meters.
