Isaiah Burke Named MEAC Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 24, 2023) – Morgan State senior guard Isaiah Burke has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. This marks his third consecutive Player of the Week Award of the season.
 
Burke (6-1, Sr., G, Bowie, Md.) averaged 24.3 points (.471 FG%), shot 11-for 23 (.478) from 3-point territory and had 14 rebounds and nine assists in three games as the Bears finished the week 2-1 with victories over Hartford and defending MEAC champion Norfolk State.
 
To begin the week, Burke scored a career-high 31 points (11-18 FG, 2-6 3FG, 7-8 FT) to go along with four rebounds and four assists in a 92-84 non-conference home win over the Hartford (Jan. 18) – good for his third straight 30-point effort – before turning in back-to-back 21-point performances against Howard and Norfolk State. He knocked down five 3-pointers in the Norfolk State contest to help lift Morgan to a 77-71 win against the Spartans at Hill Field House.

In 20 games (all starts) for the Bears this season, Burke is averaging 20.1 points (No. 18 in the nation), 2.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.0 minutes. Burke has scored in double figures in all 20 contests this season, including 11 games of scoring 20 or more points.

Burke also currently also ranks T-No. 7 in three point field goals made (70) and No. 10 in three point percentage (.455).

Morgan (11-9, 4-1) return to conference action when they travel to face the Delaware State Hornets  (2-16, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. (EST).
