Bears Conclude VMI Invitational with Strong Marks

LEXINGTON, Va. (Jan. 14, 2023) - The Morgan State men's track and field teams posted a strong effort with several broken personal records Saturday to conclude the VMI Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
How it Happened 
 
    ● Junior Adrian Holley placed 10th in the 60m dash semifinals with an IC4A qualifying time of 6.96.
 
    ● Senior Ali Bowens placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 22.28, followed by an eighth place finish by junior Adrian Holley who clocked a time of 22.29 – both were IC4A qualifying times.
 
    ● Junior Tarique Gooden placed 16th in the 400m dash with a personal best time of 50.58, followed by Emmanuel Ibeh with a time of 51.05 to place 20th.
 
    ● Freshman Dante Jackson notched a 10th place finish in the 500m with a time of 1:05.59, sophomore Keon Witherspoon took 20th place (1:10.16).

    ● Junior Emmanuel Ibeh crossed the tape for gold in the 300m with a time of 36.30. Freshman Antonio Sims placed fourth (36.55), followed by junior Tarique Gooden (36.69) and senior Ali Bowens (36.79) in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
 
    ● Sophomore Nasir Wallace recorded a time of 2:04.75 to notch a 19th place finish in the 800m.
 
    ● Sophomore Davian Gray turned in a seventh place finish in the mile by recording a personal best  time of 4:32.29. Nasir Wallace placed 13th (4:36.43) and Justin Alston was 21st (4:53.20). Alston also finished 23rd in the 3000m with a time of 10:09.16.

    ● In the 60m hurdles, freshman Malachi Wesley turned in a time of 8.42 to finish in fifth place. 

    ● The 4x400 meter relay team of Emmanuel Ibeh, Tarique Gooden, Dante Jackson and Antonio Sims took eighth place with a time of 3:26.06.
 
    ● The distance medley relay team of Devion Bryant, Tarique Gooden, Nasir Wallace and Davian Gray captured third place with a time of 10:33.21.
 
    ●  Joshua Belinga placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 6.14m (20-01.75).  
 
    ● Junior John Purvis captured gold in the shot put with a toss of 15.99.

Next Up 
The Bears will return to action when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts to compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27-28.
