Morgan State Signs Local Point Guard Rob Lawson

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 21, 2022) – Morgan State men's basketball has added to its 2022 recruiting class with the signing of Rob Lawson to a National Letter of Intent. Lawson will join the Bears as a freshman next season.

"Rob is a consummate point guard with great speed, quickness and athleticism," said Morgan State head coach Kevin Broadus. "Coming from the D.C. area I am very familiar with his rise as a player. Last year he played for a former Division 1 college coach in Kenny Johnson who has coached at Louisville, Indiana and LaSalle."

"In this day and age locking in on a high schooler that is mature enough and talented enough to step into a college program and contribute right away is rare, and we fully expect Rob to come in and do that right away. "

The Capitol Heights, Maryland product will be a freshman when he dons a Blue and Orange jersey.

Lawson played at National Christian Academy, a local power, under head coach Kenny Johnson, where he helped lead the Eagles to a 27-7 overall record and 13-2 conference mark. The team finished the season ranked No. 9 in the state of Maryland.

Lawson joins 6-8 guard/forward Khalil Turner as part of the Bears' 2022-23 recruiting class.

MSU returns veteran guards De'Torrion Ware and Malik Miller. The Bears lost four seniors Lagio Grantsaan (10.6 ppg), Keith McGee (9.0 ppg), Sherwyn Devonish-Prince (6.5 ppg) and Seventh Woods (4.7).

In his third season at MSU, Broadus led the Bears to a 13-15 overall record, and placed fourth in the MEAC standings with a 7-6 record while advancing to the MEAC Tournament semifinals game. The previous season the team made it to the MEAC championship game.
