Men's Track & Field Impresses at Joe Handleman Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. (Dec. 10, 2022) -- The Morgan State men's track and field team had a strong showing on Saturday afternoon at the annual Joe Handleman Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The Bears had several top-5 performances at Jadwin Gymnasium.

How it Happened

    ● Junior Adrian Holley placed second in the 60m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 6.94.

    ● Junior Emmanuel Ibeh crossed the tape for gold in the 300m with a time of 36.30. Freshman Antonio Sims placed fourth (36.55), followed by junior Tarique Gooden (36.69) and senior Ali Bowens (36.79) in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    ● Sophomore Davian Gray captured first place in the 600m with a time of 1:24.45, while junior teammate Devion Bryant took second (1:25.12) and Keon Witherspoon finished third (1:26.42).

    ● In the 60m hurdles, Jadon Ra-Akbar placed third with an IC4A qualifying time of 8.22. Freshman Malachi Wesley turned in a time of 8.31 (5th place) and Duane Kizer clocked in at 8.32 (6th place).

    ● Senior Ali Bowens placed seventh in the 200m dash with a a time 22.21, followed by an eighth place finish by freshman Antonio Sims who clocked a time of 22.35.

    ● The 4x400 meter relay team of Tarique Gooden, Emmanuel Ibeh, Antonio Sims and Davian Gray) took first place with a time of 3:29.89.

    ● In the 1200m, junior Justin Alston came in second place with a time of 3:26.15, followed by sophomore Jackson Waller with a time of 3:27.41.

    ● Jadon Ra-Akbar earned second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.42m (21-00.75) and Joshua Belinga placed third with a leap of 6.38m (20-11.25). Omari McKenzie added a fifth place finish (20-00-05).

    ● Junior John Purvis won fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 15.76, and added a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 14.33m.

Next Up
The Bears will return to action in the New Year when they compete at the VMI Invitational on Jan. 13-14 in Lexington, Va.
