Tiwian Kendley Joins the Lakers' G-League Affiliate, the South Bay Lakers

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 27, 2021) –Former Morgan State men's basketball standout Tiwian Kendley was recently selected by the South Bay Lakers as the team finalized their training camp roster following the conclusion of the 2021 NBA G League Draft on Saturday.

The South Bay Lakers are the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers. Kendley reported to training camp with the team on Sunday.

South Bay plays its home games at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California and their schedule starts Nov. 5 under newly announced head coach Miles Simon.

The 14-man roster includes two-way players Sekou Doumbouya and Jay Huff to go along with the additions of 2020 NBA G League MVP Frank Mason III, Chaundee Brown Jr., and Mac McClung.

Kendley, a 2018 MSU graduate, recently played with the Vellaznimi Gjakove, a professional team in Kosovo that competes in the Superliga. It marked his third season as a professional player.

Kendley has confidence in his abilities and knows what he can bring to an organization.

"What do I bring to the table? I bring everything that I have," said Kendley. "I have to leave it all on the floor for those 48 minutes."

Kendley added, "I plan on doing what I do best -- score and also be a great on-ball defender and team defender. My goal this season is to reintroduce myself, because I've been sitting for a minute and the time is now."

"The journey has definitely been a rollercoaster, but my advice to anyone is to never give up and follow your dreams. The Morgan Way."

Prior to his stint in Kosovo, the 26-year old played at Jalisco in Mexican CIBACOPA League. In two games he had very impressive statistics averaging an impressive 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals.

Before testing the international waters, Kendley played for the NBA G-League's Capitol City Go-Go's in the 2018-19 season averaging 11.7 points, 1.3 steals, before finishing the season with the Windy City Bulls.

Kendley, a 6-foot-5 guard, played two college seasons at Morgan State and became the fastest player to reach 1,000 points in MSU's Division I history, finishing with 1,032 points in just 44 career games. He averaged 26.1 points per game and grabbed 4.0 rebounds and had 2.1 steals per game in his senior campaign. Kendley reached double figures in all 44 games at Morgan State, including 20-plus in 30 games and reached 30 points or more seven times. He scored at least 25 points in 13 of his 21 games during his senior season and led the Bears in steals in 12 games his senior year.

The Harlem, N.Y. native had a career-high 41 points (13-19 FG) with six rebounds, five assists and two steals in 42 minutes vs. Bethune-Cookman (2/19/18). Kendley was a First-Team BOXTOROW All-American in 2016-17 and selected to the All-MEAC First Team his junior season and the MEAC All-Tournament Team as a senior. A two-time MEAC Player of the Week selection (Jan. 3 & Jan. 9, 2018), Kendley drew 119 fouls in 21 games (5.7 pg) his senior year, taking the 22nd-most free throws in the country. He would miss seven games due to an injury his junior year and 10 games his senior season. Kendley also scored over 1,000 points in two seasons at Lamar Community College.

As a senior, Kendley also garnered National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 15 first team honors and received second-team honors as a junior.
