Morgan State Signs Point Guard Kyson Rawls

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Morgan State has added to its 2017 recruiting class with the signing of Kyson Rawls. He will suit up for the Bears in the fall of 2017.

MSU head coach Todd Bozeman announced the addition of the St. Georges Tech High School point guard on Thursday.

"We are really excited to add Kyson to the Bear Nation family," Bozeman said. "He is a pure point guard, very heady, high basketball IQ with toughness that can also score the ball. He will add needed depth to the backcourt and point guard position specifically."

Rawls completed his senior season at St. Georges by being named the 2016-17 Gatorade Delaware Boys Basketball Player of the Year, an award that recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.

Rawls was also voted the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-1 Rawls, a native of New Castle, Del., averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as St. Georges went 19-5 and reached the semifinals of the DIAA Boys Basketball Tournament before losing to eventual champion Smyrna. The senior was at his best in a 64-48 quarterfinal upset of top-seeded Mount Pleasant, finishing with 23 points, five assists and three steals.

A first-team All-State selection, Rawls led his team to four consecutive Blue Hen Conference titles in his prep career.

Rawls is the first member of Morgan State's 2017 recruiting class.

The Bears completed the 2016-17 season with a 14-16 overall record and finished third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings at 11-5.
