Morgan State men's basketball player Martez Cameron has stepped into the the spotlight in just his second season as the Bears point guard. The 5-foot-11 playmaker has helped lead Morgan State (10-11, 7-1) to first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings and will continue to be a key to the Bears success as they get closer to March Madness.

The Chicago (Ill.) native has 98 assists to lead the Bears and currently ranks No. 3 in the conference by averaging 4.7 assists per game. Cameron, who has started in every game (21) this season, is also averaging 4.5 points and is shooting 32.1 percent from the field. The sophomore pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds with 7 points and 4 assists to lead the Bears to a 76-74 victory against cross-town rival Coppin State on Jan. 28. He followed that performance by dishing out 10 assists during a 77-60 victory against Florida A&M (Jan. 30) to help extend the Bears to a 3-game winning streak. 

Cameron and the Bears' next matchup will be at Hill Field House when they face the North Carolina Central Eagles (15-6, 6-1) on Saturday, February 4th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Student Life:
What is the best time of the year on campus? Basketball season. The whole school is so supportive at every game.
Why did you choose MSU? I chose MSU because the coaching staff. Basketball is what I love, and I needed to find a place I could continue my dream. And I also wanted to attend an HBCU.
What is your major and why? Undecided.
If you had to give an incoming student advice, what would it be? To definitely stay focused and stay on top of their grades. Especially if you're a student-athlete. I'd also tell him/her to get involved. Your college experience is what you make it.
Describe your first day as a student at Morgan. It was exciting. It was my first time meeting all of my teammates.
What do you like most about Morgan? The people and the different opportunities they offer here.
What would you like to change at Morgan State? The food. A better café food variety and staying open a little later.

Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals? Listen to my music. That's what gets me focused.
What is your favorite part about your sport?  Winning and working as a team.
If you could play another position, what would it be and why? Center, because I would like to get the chance to dunk on people.
What is your favorite athletic memory? Winning my high school's National Championship.
