AKRON, Ohio. (Feb. 20, 2016)-The Morgan State women's tennis team returned to action on Saturday afternoon for the first time in 13 days, and was dealt a 6-1 non-conference loss to the University of Akron at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
Â
The Lady Bears fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while the host Zips improved to 8-1 on the season and upped their winning streak to four straight matches.
Â
The Zips earned the doubles point by winning the first two doubles matches and then claimed the first four singles matches. Akron's sixth victory was a default victory at No. 6 singles.
Â
Morgan State's lone victory came from
Cierra Plummer at No. 5 singles. Plummer defeated Akron's Waverly Wituski, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Â
"We lost to a tough team today," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes. "It's only our third match of the year and we will learn to compete better and better. Even without a full roster we had our fair share of opportunities, and we will capitalize as the season continues."
Â
The Lady Bears will conclude its weekend trip to Ohio, when they take on Valparaiso on Sunday morning at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
