NORFOLK, Va. (March 29, 2026)--The Morgan State women's tennis team extended its season-long winning streak to six consecutive victories, following a 5-2 defeat of defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion South Carolina State on Day 2 of the MEAC Round-Up on Sunday afternoon at Folkes Stevens Tennis Center of the campus of Old Dominion.
Â
The six-match winning streak surpasses the five-match winning streak during the 2018 season, when the Lady Bears captured the program's second MEAC title. It is the longest winning streak dating to the 2004 season. Unfortunately, records prior to the 2004 season are unavailable.
Â
Morgan State (10-6, 2-0 MEAC) won two of the three doubles contests to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
Michaela Stephens and
Julia Jeffrey picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating the Lady Bulldogs' tandem of Katerina Marsalkova and Valeria Teran 7-5.
Damla Arslan and
Tyler Williams earned a 6-3 victory over Iriela Rajaobelina and Danica Nedeljkovic at No. 3 doubles to take the 1-0 lead.
Â
Riding the momentum from the doubles action, the Lady Bears then claimed victory in four of the six singles matches to earn the win. Stephens was victorious at the No. 1 spot, as she defeated Marsalkova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Amira Bargaoui got a win at No. 3 singles, following a 7-6, 6-0, 8-6 win over Teran.
Â
Williams cruised past Rajaobelina in their No. 5 match, 6-2, 6-1 and Lauren Hall needed extra tennis, as she bounced back to defeat Nedeljkovic at No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Â
The Lady Bears will close out the MEAC Round-Up on Monday, March 30 when they take on host Norfolk State at 3 p.m.
