Morgan State Falls to NC Central In MEAC Round-Up Finale

NORFOLK, Va. (March 30, 2026)--Morgan State concluded the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to North Carolina Central on Monday morning.

The Lady Bears finished the MEAC's mid-season event with a 2-1 mark. The loss ended Morgan State's season-long six-match winning streak. It was the longest winning streak since the 2018 campaign, when that squad won five straight and captured the program's second MEAC title.

The Lady Bears (10-7, 2-1 MEAC) started out strong, claiming victory in the No. 1 doubles match, as Lauryn Hall and Marta Serra Carles defeated Patricia Palencia and Sara Barbaric 7-5. But the Eagles (6-8, 2-1 MEAC) would win the remaining two contests to snatch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

Julia Jeffrey would earn the first singles win of the morning for Morgan State with her 6-4, 6-1 victory over Valeria San Miguel, to even the score at 1-1.

NCCU responded with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 6 to increase its lead to 3-1. Morgan State's Amira Bargaoui captured a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win at the No. 3 spot over Patricia Palencia to cut the deficit to 3-2.

However, the Eagles would win the match at No. 1 singles, following Alejandra Hidalgo's 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Michaela Stephens to give NCCU the 4-2 lead. Morgan State closed out the match with one final victory coming at the No. 5 position as Tyler Williams held off Sara Barbaric 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

Morgan State returns home on Sunday, April 5 to take on former MEAC foe, Hampton at 10 a.m.
