Madness Preseason Team
BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 19, 2016)-Sophomore infielder Danielle Pitpit was named to the Madness 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason All-Conference second team, as announced on Tuesday by the staff of College Sports Madness.
A native of Sylmar, Calif., Pitpit started every game and led the Lady Bears in batting average (.290). She totaled 17 runs, 29 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and had 12 RBI. Her 12 walks ranked third on the team and she went 3-for-4 in stolen bases.
Pitpit earned MEAC Player of the Week honors (Feb. 17, 2015) after registering a team-high three hits, including two doubles and a run scored in the season opener at North Carolina A&T (Feb. 14, 2015). She would also add four putouts and three assists.
Joining Pitpit on the second-team are pitchers Tara Tursellino (Delaware State), Dominique Wilson (North Carolina Central) and Ashley Eichenlaub (Savannah State); infielders Taylor McCoy (Hampton), Seana Moriarty (Norfolk State), Danielle Smith (Coppin State) and Jessica Nathan (Florida A&M); outfielders Vanessa Gomez (Maryland Eastern Shore), Diamond Ponds (Hampton) and Raven Gray (North Carolina A&T); and at utility Amanda Hallman (Savannah State).
Last season Pitpit and the Lady Bears finished the 2015 campaign with an 8-30 overall record and finished fifth in the MEAC Northern Division with a 7-10 mark. Morgan State would fall a game short of reaching the MEAC Tournament.
The Lady Bears begin the 2016 season on the road playing in the three-day Dot Richardson Tournament in Clermont, Fla. (Feb. 12-14). Morgan State will face the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in an 11 a.m. game, before taking on fellow MEAC foe Bethune-Cookman at 1:30 p.m. on Day 1 of the tournament.
On Saturday Morgan State will square off against Liberty at 1:30 p.m. and Stetson at 4 p.m., before closing out the weekend with a 10 a.m. game against the University of Akron on Sunday.
