BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2026) — The Morgan State women's cross country team officially opened its 2026 season Friday morning at the Delaware Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware, using the 5K race as an early test for the Bears.
Morgan State placed fifth in the team standings with 137 points. Maryland won the team competition with 22 points, followed by host Delaware (35), Delaware TC (114) and Wilmington (126).
"We are a very young team on both the men's and women's sides," said Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge. "However, we did show up and compete. This meet gave us a chance to see what we need to do to prepare for our next meet. Despite the results, we did have a few bright spots. Senior Crystal Coke led the team with a solid performance. Freshman Rhian Jeffries showed signs that she would be one to watch this season. As a team, we will get better each week in preparation for the MEAC Championship."
Coke led the Bears with a 37th-place finish, completing the 5K course at White Clay Creek State Park in 22:36.0.
Jeffries was the next Morgan runner across the finish line, placing 43rd in 23:08.4. Sophomore Kennedi Green followed in 46th at 23:44.1, while freshman Kennedi Proctor finished 54th in 25:29.7.
Sophomore Aiana Showell placed 55th with a time of 25:30.4, followed by sophomore Natalia Eastman, who finished 56th in 25:35.3.
The Bears will return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 11, when they compete in the Delaware State Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware.
