Morgan State Women's Cross Country Captures Team Title at the 2026 UMES Soaring Hawks Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Sept. 19, 2026) — The Morgan State women's cross country team turned in a dominant performance Saturday morning at the 2026 UMES Soaring Hawks Invitational, capturing the team title in Princess Anne.

The Bears finished with a team-low 29 points, placing ahead of runner-up Coppin State (48). Lincoln (Pa.) finished third with 50 points, while host Maryland Eastern Shore placed fourth with 83 points.

"Overall, it was a total team effort today," said head coach Neville Hodge. "The ladies were very aggressive from the start of the race and executed the race plan based on our training. The men, on the other hand, had a good showing during the early part of the race, but struggled during the latter stages of the 8K. However, the effort was there. As a staff, we are proud of the efforts of both teams."

Senior Crystal Coke led the way for the Bears, crossing the finish line first with an overall time of 21:24.86, averaging 4:20.2 per mile. She finished just ahead of freshman Rhian Jeffries, who placed second in 21:40.94.

The Lady Bears had three additional runners post top-10 finishes. Sophomore Kennedi Green clocked in at 23:33.53 to finish seventh, followed by sophomore Aiana Showell in ninth at 24:04.43 and sophomore Jahniya Barclay in 10th at 24:37.99.

With five runners finishing inside the top 10, Morgan State secured its first-place team finish with 29 points.

The Lady Bears will return to action Friday, Oct. 2, when they compete at the Richmond Invitational in Mechanicsville, Va.
