Strong Showing: Women's Cross Country Secures Runner-Up Finish at DSU Sting Invite

SMYRNA, Del. (Sept. 11, 2026) -- The Morgan State women's cross country team turned in a strong performance Friday afternoon, placing second at the Delaware State Sting Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware.

The Bears finished with 63 points, trailing host Delaware State, which captured the team title with 16 points. Coppin State placed third with 98 points, followed by Bowie State (104), Lincoln (Pa.) (105) and the University of the District of Columbia (151).

"We showed signs of improvement with both teams. However, we still have a lot of work ahead of us," said Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge. "We will continue to progress each week leading up to the conference championship."

Senior Crystal Coke led the Bears individually, placing fifth overall with a time of 21:13.5, averaging 6:49.9 per mile.

Freshman Rhian Jeffries and sophomore Kennedi Green followed closely, finishing 11th (22:12.2) and 12th (22:24.8), respectively.

Natalia Eastman placed 19th in 23:41.1, while freshman Jahniya Barclay finished 20th in 23:56.0. Sophomore Aiana Showell rounded out Morgan State's top six, placing 21st in 24:19.8.

Freshman Kennedi Proctor also competed for the Bears, finishing 24th in 24:45.1.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they compete at the UMES Soaring Hawks Invite in Princess Anne, Md.
