Morgan State Women’s Track & Field Still Chasing Gold on Day 2 of MEAC Outdoor Championships

NORFOLK, Va. (May 15, 2026) -- The Morgan State University women's track & field team continued its impressive showing Friday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at William "Dick" Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.
 
The Bears were powered by a pair of gold-medal performances and another strong day across the track and field events as Morgan State moved into first place in the team standings with 60 total points heading into Championship Saturday.
 
Junior Crystal Coke captured the MEAC title in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 11:57.26 to earn gold and deliver a key scoring performance for the Bears. Senior Brylan Carter also struck gold in the hammer throw, adding another conference title to Morgan State's growing total.

On the track, junior Jatavia Robinson advanced to the finals of the women's 100-meter dash after posting a time of 11.54, the seventh-fastest qualifying mark in the preliminaries. Freshman Anyra Knight narrowly missed advancing after finishing 12th in 11.93, while sophomore Keira Stewart recorded a time of 12.29 to place 16th.
 
Stewart later delivered a standout performance in the long jump, earning silver with a leap of 6.22 meters, a mark that currently ranks No. 3 among HBCU performers this season. Junior Laniyah Henderson added a 10th-place finish with a jump of 5.60 meters, while freshman Jayla-Shae Wright placed 12th after recording a mark of 5.26 meters.
 
Morgan State also added points in the shot put, where freshman Terry-Ann Thompson finished seventh with a throw of 11.52 meters. Junior Cailyn Johnson placed 10th with a mark of 10.84 meters.
 
Earlier in the day, Knight placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 14.11, while freshman Kayla Gordon posted a season-best 57.93 to finish 10th in the 400-meter dash.
 
Championship Saturday will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. The broadcast opens with the 4x100-meter relay finals and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay final at 4:15 p.m. Team trophies and Outstanding Performer honors will be awarded following the final events.

Cailyn Johnson earned gold with a winning throw of 46.17 meters, while Brylan Carter placed fourth with a toss of 39.92 meters.
 
High Jump
TyTiana Grandy and Aleah Alexander tied for sixth place after each clearing 1.55 meters.
