LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 28, 2026) — Despite a strong showing on the national stage, Morgan State sophomore Keira Stewart saw her postseason run come to a close Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Region First Round at the UK Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

Stewart, who entered the competition ranked No. 39 in the East Region, recorded a jump of 19-9 (6.02m) to finish 22nd overall among the region's top 47 long jump competitors, narrowly missing qualification for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at historic Hayward Field.

The East Hartford, Conn., native wrapped up a standout outdoor campaign for Morgan State University. Stewart captured gold in the long jump at the MSU Legacy Meet with a leap of 6.08m before earning a third-place finish at the world-renowned Penn Relays with a mark of 6.04m.

At the 2026 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Stewart posted a personal-best jump of 6.22m to secure the silver medal and solidify herself as one of the conference's premier field athletes.

Next up for the Bears is junior Laniyah Henderson, who is scheduled to compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 6 p.m. Henderson qualified for the regional after recording a personal-best mark of 13.03m at the MEAC Championships and enters the meet ranked No. 22 in the East Region.

The NCAA East First Rounds serve as the preliminary qualifying meet for the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The top 12 finishers in each event, along with the top 12 relay teams from both the East and West regional sites, will advance to the national championships.
