DURHAM, N.C. (April 11, 2026) -- The Morgan State men's track & field team continued its outdoor campaign this weekend at the Duke Invitational, competing over two days at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Hosted by Duke University, the invitational featured a competitive field that included Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents Coppin State University, North Carolina Central University, and Norfolk State University.
The Bears had several performances over the two-day meet. The strong weekend showing signals a promising start to the spring slate as the Bears continue preparations for the upcoming Legacy Track Meet (April 17-18).
FRIDAY, APRIL 10
Morgan State's men turned in a strong opening day on Friday evening in Durham, highlighted by several standout performances across both the track and field events. Sophomore
Caleb Mincey led the way on the track, racing to a second-place finish in Heat 4 of the 1500 meters and posting a personal-best time of 3:51.76, which ranked 66th overall in a highly competitive field. In the 100-meter preliminaries, sophomore
Doyin Smith paced the Bears with a time of 10.62. In the field events, sophomore
Isaac Rankin delivered one of the top performances of the day, tying for ninth in the high jump after matching his personal best clearance of 2.01 meters. Sophomore
Demond Smith also posted a notable showing in the discus, placing 12th with a throw of 47.74 meters as the Bears closed out Day 1 with momentum.

Morgan State's men wrapped up Day 2 with several strong performances, highlighted by standout efforts in the relays and hurdles. The Bears' 'A' 4x100-meter relay team of

Doyin Smith turned in one of the day's top results, posting a season-best time of 41.23 to finish seventh overall. Freshman
Chege Kaba also delivered a solid showing in the 400-meter hurdles, placing second in Heat 3 with a time of 53.80 and finishing 19th overall. In the 400 meters, sophomore
Maxim Copeland led Morgan with a 49.01 to place sixth in Heat 3, while freshman Donavon Winslow also recorded a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 22.09, and freshman
Jacob Denny posted a personal-best javelin toss of 50.56 meters to place 19th. The Bears capped off the day with a solid 4x400-meter relay effort, finishing 18th overall in 3:20.17 as Morgan continued to build momentum heading into next week's Legacy Track Meet.
