Morgan State Men’s Track & Field Post Strong Results at Harvard and BU Meets

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 31, 2026) -- The Morgan State men's track & field team split its squad this weekend, competing at the Harvard Invitational on Friday, followed by a trip to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday.

Highlighted by a handful of standout individual efforts, Morgan posted solid marks in both field and track events at the Harvard Invitational.

"The men delivered some outstanding performances!" said Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge. "We competed against very strong teams and rose to the challenge, showing true grit despite obstacles. We're proud of their efforts and will continue to believe in each other. Go Bears!"


DAY 1 January 30 | Harvard Invitational | Results

On the field, freshman Demond Smith placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.02 meters, while freshman David Douglas cleared 1.90 meters to finish sixth in the high jump.

On the track, freshman Caleb Mincey won the mile open in 4:14.90. Sophomore Doyin Smith recorded a personal-best 6.84 to place sixth in the 60-meter open final, and sophomore Maxim Copeland added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter open with a time of 22.09.

Long Jump
Freshman Derrick McCorkle Jr. recorded a leap of 6.39m to place ninth, followed by freshman Noah Hopes, who placed 11th with a personal best mark of 6.35m.

Weight Throw
Freshman Demond Smith added a fifth-place finish in the weight throw, registering a mark of 15.02m.

Pole Vault Open
Freshman Jeryco Sheppard cleared 4.30m to finish 8th overall.

High Jump Open
Freshman David Douglas posted a leap of 1.90m to place sixth.

High Jump Championship
Junior Isaac Rankin finished tied for sixth by posting a leap of 1.98m, while KeSean-Jordan Rhooms placed ninth with a mark of 1.93.

Track Events:

60H First Round
Junior Jadon Ra-Akbar clocked in at 8.37 in heat three of the first round.

60m Open Final
Sophomore Doyin Smith raced to a sixth-place finish with a personal best time of 6.84.

400m Open
Freshman Keenan Frisby recorded a ninth-place finish with a season best time of 50.20.

200m Open
Sophomore Maxim Copeland turned in a strong performance with a fourth-place finish in 22.09, while freshman Myles Dorsey ended up taking 14th place in 22.57.

Mile Open
Freshman Caleb Mincey placed first after clocking a time of 4:14.90.


DAY 2 January 31 | BU John Thomas Terrier Classic | Results

The Bears turned in several strong performances at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. In the 400-meter open, sophomore Maxim Copeland finished runner-up, crossing the line in a personal best time of 48.47. In the 60-meter open, sophomore Doyin Smith also placed second with a time of 7.04. Junior Jadon Ra-Akbar added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles invitational final, clocking 8.33.

In the field events, junior Isaac Rankin tied for third in the high jump with a season best clearance of 2.00 meters, while sophomore KeSean-Jordan Rhooms posted a mark of 13.67 meters to place 12th in the triple jump. Freshman Derrick McCorkle Jr. recorded a leap of 6.55 meters to finish 13th in the long jump.
 
Field Events:

Freshman Derrick McCorkle Jr. recorded a leap of 6.55m to place 13th, while Jadon Ra-Akbar cleared 6.54m (16th) and Noah Hopes posted a 6.25m (23rd).

Triple Jump
Sophomore KeSean-Jordan Rhooms cleared 13.67m to place 12th. Freshman David Douglas posted a mark of 12.86m.

High Jump
Junior Isaac Rankin tied for third place with a leap of 2.00m.

Shot Put
Sophomore Demond Smith had a throw of 13.31m (20th).

Weight Throw
Sophomore Demond Smith had a throw of 15.60m (16th).
 
Track Events:

60H Invite
Junior Jadon Ra-Akbar qualified for the finals with a time of 8.53, and placed fifth with a time of 8.33.

60m Open
Sophomore Doyin Smith crossed the tape with a second-place finish with a time of 7.04.

400m Invite
Senior Antonio Sims clocked in with a personal best time of 49.30 (26th).

400m Open
Sophomore Maxim Copeland finished runner-up by crossing the tape with a personal best time of 48.47. Myles Dorsey had a time of 49.81 (25th).

60H Invite
Junior Jadon Ra-Akbar qualified for the finals with a time of 8.53 and raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 8.33.

800m Open
Freshman Keenan Frisby turned in a time of 1:55.07 (40th).

200m Invite
Sophomore Maxim Copeland posted a time of 21.89 to place 16th. Sophomore Doyin Smith finished with a time of 22.12 (21st).

200m Open
Senior Antonio Sims recorded a time of 21.97 to finish in 12th place.

4x400m Relay
Morgan State's quartet (Maxim Copeland, Doyin Smith, Antonio Sims, and Myles Dorsey) recorded an eighth-place finish with a season-best time of 3:16.13.

800m Invite
Sophomore Caleb Mincey clocked in a personal best time of 1:51.97 (19th).
