Track & Field Opens New Year at Penn Select

Final Results

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Dec. 10, 2026) – The Morgan State men's and women's track & field teams opened the New Year on Saturday at the Penn Select, hosted inside the Ott Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

The early-season meet provided the Bears with an opportunity to ease into competition, fine-tune their performances, and gauge their progress against a strong field as the indoor season commenced.

Competing Teams: Delaware, Delaware State, Howard, La Salle, Lehigh, Morgan State, Penn, Rider, Rutgers, St. Joseph's, Temple, Towson, and Villanova.

FIELD EVENTS

Women
• Weight Throw – Sophomore Terry-Ann Thompson posted a personal-best throw of 15.42m, finishing 4th overall in the field.
• High Jump – Sophomore Aleah Alexander tied for 8th place, clearing a personal-best 1.62m.
• Long Jump – Sophomore Keira Stewart earned 5th place with a top mark of 5.80m.
• Pole Vault – Freshman Raven Johnson cleared 3.17m to finish 12th overall.

Men
• High Jump – Junior Isaac Rankin finished 6th, clearing 1.91m, while sophomore Kesean-Jordan Rhooms tied for 8th with a mark of 1.91m.
• Long Jump – Freshman Derrick McCorkle Jr. recorded a personal-best leap of 6.99m on his third attempt.
• Weight Throw – Freshman Demond Smith placed 9th with a throw of 12.77m.
• Shot Put – Freshman Demond Smith finished 8th, posting a mark of 13.85m.
• Pole Vault – Freshman Jeryco Sheppard cleared a personal-best 4.45m to take 7th place, which currently ranks No. 1 in the MEAC.
• Triple Jump – Sophomore Kesean-Jordan Rhooms earned 3rd place with a jump of 14.07m, while freshman David Douglas placed 8th after clearing 13.13m.

TRACK EVENTS

• 1 Mile – Freshman Natalia Eastman recorded a time of 5:52.61.
• 60m Hurdles – Freshman Anyra Knight placed 5th in the prelims with a time of 9.11, then advanced to the finals and finished 4th overall with a personal-best 8.91.
• 60m – Sophomore Jatavia Robinson advanced to the finals after qualifying in 7.70, then earned 2nd place in the finals with a time of 7.62.
• 400m – Freshman Aiana Showell clocked 59.28.
• 800m – Senior Aaliyah Headley finished 26th, posting a time of 2:29.26.
• 3000m – Junior Crystal Coke crossed the line in 11:12.55.
• 4x400m Relay – Morgan State's "A" team of Aiana Showell, Jada Glass, Keira Stewart, and Jayla Wright finished with a time of 4:07.42.

Men
• 200m – Sophomore Doyin Smith captured 2nd place with a time of 21.85, followed by freshmen Derrick McCorkle Jr. (22.62, 6th) and Donavan Winslow (22.74, 9th).
• 400m – Sophomore Maxim Copeland finished 4th, clocking 48.92, while freshman Seth Minter placed 9th with a time of 50.51.
• 1 Mile – Sophomore Caleb Mincey secured 11th place with a personal-best 4:12.82, which currently stands as the fastest time in the MEAC this season.
• 60m Hurdles – Junior Jadon Ra-Akbar advanced to the finals after qualifying in 8.32, then earned 3rd place in the finals with a time of 8.37.
• 60m – Sophomore Doyin Smith qualified for the finals in 6.89 and finished 3rd overall, improving to a personal-best 6.88.
• 800m – Freshman Keenan Frisby finished 11th, posting a time of 1:56.49, which currently ranks third-fastest time in the MEAC this season.
• 4x400m Relay – The Morgan State "A" team of Maxim Copeland, C. Stuckless, Doyin Smith, and Seth Minter placed 2nd, crossing the line in 3:21.19.

Morgan State head coach Neville Hodge reflected on the Bears' overall effort at the Penn Select, citing numerous personal and season-best performances from both the men's and women's teams.

"This weekend's meet was challenging in terms of expectations, but we will continue to move the needle to the top despite our situation," said Hodge. "After it was all said and done, we had a number of rewarding performances across the board."

"On the women's side, Jatavia Robinson set the tone by finishing third in the 60 meters at 7.61, Aleah Alexander cleared a personal-best 1.62 meters in the high jump, and Keira Stewart posted a season-best 5.80 meters in the long jump. Terry-Ann Thompson recorded a personal-best 15.42 meters in the weight throw, Raven Johnson added a season-best 3.70 meters in the pole vault, Addriana Cordner produced a personal-best 13.42 meters in the weight throw, and Anyra Knight ran a season-best 8.91 in the 60-meter hurdles."

"On the men's side, Doyin Smith set the track on fire with a personal-best 6.88 in the 60 meters to place third and a second-place finish in the 200 at 21.85. Jeryco Sheppard cleared a personal-best 4.45 meters in the pole vault, Caleb Mincey ran a personal-best mile at 4:13.82, and Derrick McCorkle Jr. recorded a personal-best 6.99 meters in the long jump. Maxim Copeland posted a personal-best 48.92 in the 400 meters for fourth place, Kesean-Jordan Rhooms delivered a strong effort in the triple jump, Isaac Rankin cleared a season-best 1.91 meters in the high jump, Jadon Ra-Akbar ran a season-best 8.37 in the hurdles, and Chege Kaba added a season-best 8.50.
