Baltimore Md. (Sept. 11, 2025) -- On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Morgan State cross country teams will head to Smyrna, Delaware, to compete in the Delaware State Invitational.
At the UMES Hawks Season Opener, the Morgan State men's team turned in a strong performance, earning third place with 80 points and a combined time of 1:28:27.30 (17:41.46 average). Norfolk State secured the victory with 20 points, Delaware State followed in second with 38, and host Maryland Eastern Shore finished fourth with 100.
Sophomore Samuel Skinner led the Bears with an impressive performance at The Hawks Cross Country Pavilion. Skinner clocked 16:14.79 on the 5K course, securing a ninth-place finish and a top-10 spot for Morgan.
On the women's side, the Lady Bears opened the season on a strong note, led by a pair of top-10 finishes. Aaliyah Headley set the pace with a 7th-place finish in 17:28.98, while Crystal Coke followed in 10th at 17:47.96, giving Morgan State two key scorers to kick off the year.
"We are going to be more aggressive in attacking the race from start to finish with a balanced approach," said MSU head coach Neville Hodge. "We expect each athlete to challenge themselves to have a better performance than their last meet."
The Bears will aim to carry their momentum into this Friday's Delaware State Invitational.
