Wyoming Seminary Wrestling Adds Morgan State Star to Coaching Ranks

Darrien Roberts Returns as an Assistant Coach for the Blue Knights

BALTIMORE, Md. (June 18, 2025) – The Wyoming Seminary wrestling program is set for an exciting boost in the 2025-26 season with the arrival of Darrien Roberts as a full-time Assistant Coach. Roberts' addition promises to infuse the already strong program with fresh energy and a wealth of expertise.

The Blue Knights' selection of Roberts, a recent graduate of Morgan State and a decorated wrestler himself, signals a commitment to continued excellence. This move brings a youthful perspective to the coaching staff and allows Roberts to make an immediate impact on the development of Wyoming Seminary's wrestling talent.

Before his collegiate wrestling career, Roberts honed his skills at Wyoming Seminary itself, making his return a full-circle moment and providing him with an intimate understanding of the school's wrestling culture and expectations. Having been immersed in a program consistently ranked among the nation's top 7 for prep and high school wrestling, Roberts possesses an invaluable perspective, knowing firsthand the dedication, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence that define Wyoming Seminary wrestling. His competitive experience and recent collegiate success promise a valuable contribution to the program's future achievements.

Roberts, a native of the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, embarked on his academic and athletic journey with a clear vision: to excel both on the mat and in the professional world. He earned an undergraduate degree in Applied Liberal Studies and is currently scheduled to complete his Project Management certificate from Morgan State University this December.

While initially venturing to the University of Oklahoma for wrestling, Roberts ultimately recognized a compelling opportunity back at Morgan State. With the wrestling program undergoing a revitalization under the guidance of legendary Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist Kenny Monday, Darrien saw a chance to contribute to something special. The opportunity to learn from and be mentored by a figure like Monday, whose legacy he deeply admires, proved too enticing to resist.

Darrien finished the 2024-25 season with an impressive individual record of 12-6 overall, with an 8-2 record in dual wins, including a 7-5 record in wins by decision. His fastest pin time this year is 2:23, and he held the second-best record on the team.

Coach Monday expressed pride and support for Robert's recent career advancement, sharing his thoughts on his new appointment.

"Darrien is excited to start his new journey as Assistant Coach at Wyoming Seminary," he stated. "He's had a major impact on our program at Morgan with his experience and leadership. We wish him the very best as he leads one of the best high school programs in the country."

The Blue Knights have won eight national championships, dating as far back as 1937, '47, '48, and '52. More recently, Sem earned the title in 2014, '20, '22, and '24 at the National Prep Wrestling Championships. Sem also won an incredible 15 consecutive state championships from 2007 to 2022 at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament (PAISWT).
