Jackson Wins Gold In Long Jump On Day 2 Of MEAC Championships

NORFOLK, Va. (May 16, 2025)--
Day 2 of the Mid-Easten Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field championships saw Morgan State produce its second individual champion in as many days, along with 10 top 10 finishes on Friday at Norfolk State's Dick Price Stadium.
 
The Lady Bears currently sit in third place in the team standings with 45 points through eight scored events. Host Norfolk State leads with 81 points, while Howard is in a close second with 78 points. Delaware State has 39 points to rank fourth and North Carolina Central is in fifth with 31 points. South Carolina State has 17 points and is in sixth place and Maryland Eastern Shore is seventh with seven points.
 
Morgan State's field team continued to pace the Lady Bears, as Tia Jackson captured gold in the long jump on Friday, recording a leap of 19-09.00 (6.02m) to claim the title and Morgan State's second gold medal of the meet. Jackson's victory marked the third time (2022, 2023, 2025) in her career she won the long jump at the MEAC Outdoor Championships.
 
Fellow teammates Kiera Stewart placed third in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.00 (5.89m), while Laniyah Henderson had a jump of 18-08.75 (5.71m) to finish seventh.
 
In the hammer throw, Brylan Carter placed fifth, while setting a personal best with a toss of 160-07 (48.96m). Cailyn Johnson had a throw of 130-06 (39.79m) to finish in seventh.
 
Johnson would also place eighth in the shot put after recording a throw of 38-04.75 (11.70m). Carter would come in ninth with a mark of 37-05.25 (11.41m).
 
On the track, Jessica Lamborn placed 10th in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:17.06.
 
Victoria Francis ran a season-best 56.27 to finish 10th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash.
 
Denisha McLaurin finished in 10th place in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.44 seconds.   

The 2025 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday, May 17 with events beginning at 10 a.m. including the women's pole vault final, men's triple jump, and women's javelin. Live coverage will stream on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m.
