Lady Bears Place Seventh At Bulldog Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas (March 4, 2025)--The Morgan State bowling team placed seventh over the weekend in a 10-team field at the Bulldog Classic (Feb. 28-March 2), hosted by Louisiana Tech at Cityview Lanes.
 
The Lady Bears (37-39) went a combined 5-8 during the three-day tournament. No. 8 Sam Houston State won the tournament, defeating host No. 11 Louisiana Tech in the championship final, 4-0. Both teams finished with 9-4 records. Oklahoma Christian finished with an 8-5 mark and was third.  
 
During Friday's Baker matches, the Lady Bears concluded the opening day with a 1-4 record. Morgan State dropped decisions to Prairie View A&M (812-942), Oklahoma Christian (854-930) and No. 11 Louisiana Tech (872-920), before defeating Jackson State (947-893). Morgan State then ended the day with a loss to No. 20 Tulane (811-907).
 
On Saturday, the Lady Bears participated in the traditional team matches and finished with a 3-2 mark. Morgan State started with a loss to Alabama State (855-953), then rattled off three consecutive wins over No. 5 Central Missouri (925-901), Alabama State (974-853) and Saint Anselm (872-739). Morgan State then dropped its finale to No. 8 Sam Houston State (931-966).
 
Morgan State headed into Championship Sunday seeded fifth. The Lady Bears fell in their first two best-of-7 Baker matches, losing to both Alabama State and Prairie View A&M by the score of 4-1. Morgan State then concluded the tournament earning a 4-3 victory over No. 5 Central Missouri in the seventh-place match.
 
Kiara Smith, who was named MVP of the tournament, led the Lady Bears and the field with 1,031 pins for an average of 206.20. Smith rolled back-to-back high games of 215 in an upset victory over No. 5 Central Missouri and against Alabama State.
 
Carrington Beaman was the only other Lady Bear to finish in the top 10. Beaman placed sixth, recording a total of 977 pins for an average of 195.40. She would roll a team-best high game of 236 against No. 8 Sam Houston State.
 
The Lady Bears will now get ready for the upcoming USBC ISC/ITC Sectionals held in Addison, Ill. (March 7-9).
