TOWSON, Md. (March 29, 2025) --Â The Morgan State men's track and field team made a short but significant journey across Baltimore, traversing five miles to compete in the annual Towson Invitational. Hosted by Towson University at the familiar Johnny Unitas Stadium, the two-day meet provided a proving ground against a strong contingent of regional athletes.
Throughout the weekend, the team consistently delivered commendable performances, proudly boasting an impressive 12 top-5 finishes. The highlight of their efforts, however, was undoubtedly the securing of four first-place victories.
Jadon Ra-Akbar soared to victory in the long jump, securing first place with an impressive personal best leap of 6.87 meters. The junior also placed 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles by registering a time of 14.62.
Kimani Coffee took first place in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.36 meters, while his teammates Demond Smith and Zackery Dillon finished 3rd (13.65m) and 4th place (13.62m), respectively in the shot put.

In the 100-meter dash, Antonio Sims raced to a 3rd place finish by crossing the tape with a personal best time of 10.73.
Maxim Copeland delivered a commendable showing in the 200 meter dash, claiming 4th place with a time of 21.74 seconds. Dante Jackson also contributed to the team's efforts, securing an 8th place finish with a time of 22.08 seconds. Antonio Sims rounded out the team's representation in the event, finishing 10th with a time of 22.62 seconds.Â
Jackson's impressive performance extended beyond the 200-meter, as he also secured a strong second-place finish in the 400-meter dash. He clocked in a personal best time of 48.57 seconds. Following closely behind were his teammates, Maxim Copeland and Timothy Rich, who put up a good fight to secure 4th and 6th place respectively with Copeland finishing the race in 49.77 seconds and Rich in 50.07 seconds.Â
Samuel Skinner led the Bears long distance efforts, showcasing his endurance and speed in the 1500 meter run. His performance earned him a 7th place finish, clocking in at a personal best time of 4:08.18.Â
The Bears once again showcased their dominance in relay events, this time in the 4x100 meter race. The quartet of Jadon Ra-Akbar, Dante Jackson, Antonio Sims, and Maxim Copeland delivered a flawless performance, each runner executing their leg with precision and speed. Their combined efforts resulted in a blistering time of 41.66 seconds, securing a decisive first-place finish.Â
Morgan punctuated their strong showing at the meet with a dominant performance in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Vincent Washington, Samuel Skinner, Caleb Mincey, and Rushshane Fullerton ran a 3:21.14. Their collective effort culminated in a first-place finish, securing a final victory for the Bears.Â
