Jackson Captures MEAC Long Jump Championship; Lady Bears Finish Fifth

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 24, 2025)--
The 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships came to an end on Monday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
Morgan State would finish the two-day meet in fifth place with a total of 53 points. The Lady Bears had five top-five finishes, including one individual champion in Tia Jackson. Jackson would also be named Co-Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet.
 
On Day 1 of the meet, Jackson would capture the long jump title on Sunday with a mark of 19-06.25 (5.95m). Keira Stewart would finish in fourth with a jump of 18-00.25 (5.49m).
 
Bryland Carter placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 50-10.00 (15.49m). Makenzie Harris earned a third-place finish in the pentathlon with a total of 3,062 points.
 
Jessica Lamborn ran a time of 2:23.24 to place eighth in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run. Lamborn's time advanced her to Monday's championship round.
 
Also advancing to Championship Monday was Harris, who placed seventh in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.75.
 
Other notable performances on Sunday were the Lady Bears' distance medley team of Abigail Fisher, Keira Stewart, Jessica Lamborn and Crystal Coke crossed the line in a time of 13:14.46 to place sixth.
 
Crystal Coke ran a time of 11:26.87 in the 3000-meter run to finish eighth and Laniyah Henderson placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-06.90 (5.33m).
 
On Championship Monday, Jackson took third in the high jump with a height of 5-05.25 (1.66m). Aleah Alexander (5-03.00) would finish eighth and TyTiana Grandy (5-01.00) was 10th.
 
Cailyn Johnson recorded a throw of 40-01.50 (12.23m) in the shot put to place sixth.
 
Laniyah Henderson finished seventh in the triple jump and a leap of 38-07.00 (11.76m) and Hemetii Apet was eight with a jump of 37-05.00 (11.40m).
 
Jessica Lamborn placed eighth in both the 800-meter run in a time of 2:29.58 and finished eighth in the mile run, finishing in 5:27.18.  
 
Crystal Coke came in eighth in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line in 20:23.80. Makenzie Harris placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 10.46.
 
The Lady Bears' 4x400 meter relay team of Keira Stewart, Makenzie Harris, Aaliyah Headley and Hemetii Apet ran 4:06.82 to place eighth.
 
Howard captured the team title with 256 points to capture its fourth consecutive title. Norfolk State placed second with 135 points, North Carolina Central (60 points) finished third and Delaware State (57 points) held off Morgan State for fourth.
 
Howard head coach David Oliver was named Outstanding Coach of the Meet. Howard's Joslyn Crosby was named Outstanding Runner, while teammate Temi Banwo shared Co-Outstanding Field honors with Morgan State's Tia Jackson.
 
The Lady Bears had four athletes earn All-MEAC honors. Jackson was named to the All-MEAC First Team in the long jump and earned third team honors in the high jump. Carter was named to the third team in the weight throw, while Harris also was named to the third team in the pentathlon.
 
The top three finishers in each event were named All-MEAC.
