Morgan State Women’s Track & Field Shine on Opening Day 1 of MEAC Outdoor Championships

NORFOLK, Va. (May 14, 2026) -- The Morgan State University women's track & field team turned in a strong opening-day performance Thursday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at William "Dick" Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.
 
The Bears delivered several standout performances across the track and field events, highlighted by an individual title in the discus and multiple scoring finishes to close Day 1 in second place overall with 20 team points.
 
Junior Jatavia Robinson secured a spot in the finals of the women's 200-meter dash after posting a qualifying time of 24.33, the fifth-fastest mark of the preliminaries.
 
Morgan State also received a strong distance performance from junior Crystal Coke, who narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Coke crossed the line in a personal-best 41:35.99, which currently ranks No. 13 among HBCU performers this season.

 
 
In the field events, junior Cailyn Johnson successfully defended her conference title in the discus with a winning toss of 46.17 meters, capturing gold for the second consecutive season. Senior Brylan Carter added points for the Bears with a fourth-place finish after recording a throw of 39.92 meters.
 
Morgan State also picked up points in the high jump, where sophomores TyTiana Grandy and Aleah Alexander each cleared 1.55 meters to finish tied for sixth place.
 
Friday's schedule will feature a busy slate of preliminary races and field event finals, including the long jump, shot put, hammer throw, and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
Championship Saturday will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. The broadcast opens with the 4x100-meter relay finals and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay final at 4:15 p.m. Team trophies and Outstanding Performer honors will be awarded following the final events.

Jatavia Robinson advanced to the finals with a qualifying time of 24.33, finishing fifth overall.

Crystal Coke placed fourth with a personal-best time of 41:35.99, ranking No. 13 among HBCU performers this season.

Cailyn Johnson earned gold with a winning throw of 46.17 meters, while Brylan Carter placed fourth with a toss of 39.92 meters.

TyTiana Grandy and Aleah Alexander tied for sixth place after each clearing 1.55 meters.
