BALTIMORE, Md. (August 1, 2024) — Morgan State had 13 student-athletes honored on the 2024 Phil Steele Preseason All-MEAC Football Team, which was highlighted by defensive lineman Elijah Williams being named Phil Steele's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Williams (6-3, 270) was a defensive standout in the trenches for the Bears in 2023. The First-Team All-MEAC performer became a nightmare for offenses, cementing his reputation as one of the most dominant edge rushers in the conference.
The New Jersey product registered 50 total tackles, including 31 solo tackles. His ability to penetrate the offensive line and disrupt plays was unmatched, as evidenced by his league-leading 11.0 tackles for loss.
Williams was joined on the MEAC All-Conferense first team by defensive lineman Nana Asante, linebacker Erick Hunter and return specialist Keith Jenkins Jr..
Taking home Second Team recognition were defensive back and Carlvainsky Decius, offensive lineman Treyvon Branch, all-purpose specialist Keith Jenkins Jr., and long snapper Griffin Dorman.
Wide receiver Andre Crawley, quarterback Tahj Smith, defensive lineman Melteon Davis, linebacker Ahmad McCullough, defensive back Ja'son Prevard and kicker Shane Messenger were named to the Third Team.
It's also the second preseason honor for Williams and Hunter, who were each honored to the FCS Football Central All-American First Team earlier this week.
The official preseason all-conference team from the MEAC will be unveiled by the league ahead of MEAC Football Media Day, which takes place July 23 at Hilton Norfolk The Main in Norfolk, Virginia.
Morgan opens its 2024 football season on Aug. 31 against the Hampton Pirates at Armstrong Stadium.
