Week 1 Wrap-Up

Gallery

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 28, 2026)
The Morgan State Bears football wrapped up Week 1 of spring practice on (day), continuing to build toward the 2026 season with competitive reps, position battles, and steady development on both sides of the ball.

The Bears emphasized execution, consistency, and competition across the roster. Energy remained high throughout the week as multiple position groups showed steady progress. Both sides of the ball produced competitive, high-tempo reps, with the offense showing improved rhythm and the defense responding with physical, disciplined play.

As camp progresses, the Bears are beginning to establish depth and identity, with players stepping up and embracing the coaching staff's focus on accountability and daily improvement.

Newcomers Making an Impact:
Quarterback Cameron Edge, an Eastern Michigan Eagles football transfer, and running back Marquez Spells, who joined the program from Newberry Wolves football, both earned praise this week for their execution and preparation, making strong early impressions during their first spring camp with the Morgan State Bears football.

Energy & Culture:
Physicality has been a major takeaway for head coach Damon Wilson through the first week of spring ball, with the offensive line setting the tone and consistently bringing energy throughout practice.

Standout Performers (Week 1)
Offense: QB Cameron Edge, QB Ade Olanegan, RB Keith Jenkins Jr, RB Marquez Spells, OL Tyler Habershaw-Agbemenu, OL Kelton Sparks
Defense: DL Anthony Chuman, LB Darius Jones
Special Teams: RS/RB Keith Jenkins Jr.
Unsung Hero: DB Joshua Narh

NOTE THE QUOTE - HEAD COACH DAMON WILSON

What were your biggest takeaways from this week of camp?
"So far so good. The guys are competing at a high level. I feel good about the additions we have in the program, including freshmen and transfers. The returning guys have done really well in the off-season with conditioning. We have a physical group—especially our defensive line and some of the front-office pickups—which really stood out in the first three practices."

How has the team responded to the tempo and expectations so far?
"They responded pretty well. We're definitely closing the gap on some of the conference teams that have won championships. The guys are bringing energy, playing for one another, and buying into the brotherhood."

Any freshmen or transfers catching your eye in the first three days?
"At quarterback, Cam [Cameron Edge] and Ade Olanegan have done a great job. In the running back room, Marquez Spells and Jordan Barnett have shown up. On the offensive line, Tyler [Habershaw-Agbemenu] and Kelton Sparks stand out. Defensive line, Chew [Anthony Chuman] has had a strong practice. Linebacker Darius Jones has also performed well. Returner Keith Jenkins Jr. has had a great off-season and the first three days of practice. Overall, several transfer guys have made an impact early."

How is the team looking to continue last year's defensive energy and improve this year?
"I try to separate the years because we'll never play a game from 2025 again. This is a new team, replacing about forty players. The nucleus that remained from last year's team did well in the off-season, and the coaching staff has recruited strong contributors to replace those who left. We're focused on building a new, competitive team."

How would you describe the team's identity at this point?
"It's still early, but we're shaping a balanced team that can score offensively and stop people defensively. The guys are smarter, more intentional, and engaged in film study. We haven't put on full gear yet, but the foundation is strong."

How has the coaching staff performed in the first week?
"We're navigating some staff changes and getting new coaches integrated. The additions will enhance the program and help us continue building momentum."
