TOWSON, Md. (March 29, 2024)--At the onset of spring, during the Towson Spring Invitational, the Morgan State women's outdoor track and field team showcased their athletic talents in the sunny and breezy conditions at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Friday.
29 teams had gathered at the venue, all eager to show off their skills and compete. Among the teams were some familiar names, such as Delaware State, Coppin State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Howard, UMBC and host Towson.
Graduate student,
Johnelle Johnson led the way for Morgan, as she was victorious in winning gold in the hammer throw, while breaking the school record. Johnson threw 51.49m to place first, breaking the previous school record held by
Nikelene McLean (2015-19). Senior
Ishana Asinor would finish tied for second in the pole vault with a mark of 10-11.75 (3.35m), which matches her personal best and the school record that she set.
Other Highlights
● Freshman,
Victoria Francis came in third place in the 400m dash. She finished in 57.87 seconds.
● Sophomore
Denisha McLaurin, placed third in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.66.
●
Jessica Lamborn ran 2.23.09 in the 800m dash, crossing the finish line in fourth place.
●
Brylan Carter threw a length of 32.10m in the javelin throw to place fourth.
●
Crystal Coke turned in a time of 12:34.10, finishing in fourth place in the 3000m steeplechase.
●
Aleisha Robinson and
Victoria Francis participated in the 200m collegiate. Robinson raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 25.07 seconds, followed closely by Francis who placed eight in 25.23 seconds.
● In the 1500m,
Abigail Fisher secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 5:00.86.
Jessica Lamborn crossed the finish line in seventh place at 5:05.19.

The Bears will compete at the James Madison University Invitational next Saturday, April 13th at Sentara Park.
